Ronald Acuna nears extension with Atlanta.

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/04/braves-nearing-extension-with-ronald-acuna.html

In an exclamation point on a spring full of extensions, the Braves are finalizing a $100MM deal with elite youngster Ronald Acuna, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.com (Twitter links). The eight-year contract comes with two option years, priced at $17MM apiece with a $10MM buyout, per the report. Acuna is represented by Alex Salazar of Gamemore Sports.

The Nationals are idiots.

When the calendar flipped to 2019, the Nationals got back to Harper and Boras with a new offer Jan. 3: 12 years for $250 million, according to one person with direct knowledge of the terms. Much like the proposal they made to Harper before the season ended, some of the money was deferred. The last payment from this contract, according to the person, would have come in 2072.

2072... would Harper be alive at that point? Hell, will baseball still be a thing at that point?

edit: I just checked... Harper was born in 1992, so if he'd signed that contract, he'd be getting the last of his deferred money when he's 80. That's some extra-special fuckery right there.

Zack Greinke hits 2 homers against the Padres. And oh yeah, he struck out 10, cuz he's a pitcher. A nice retro game for him.

Any team that hired Dusty Baker as manager has proved their collective incompetence.

Yet the last two teams to have him as a manager, missed the playoffs the year following his dismissal (Cincinnati, Washington). Best manager ever? No. But he seemed to get the job done.

Reds set a Great American Ballpark attendance record the other night, drawing 7,799 fans.

I'm sure it doesn't help that it was cold as hell. I didn't see that game, but I noticed that half the players were wearing balaclavas during the series against the Pirates.

I’m going to try and go to the Syracuse Mets game tomorrow, it’s supposed to rain heavily. I’ll get pictures for all you Tim Tebow lovers in here.
