Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

When the heck is this company going to issue the Doomsday Machine-damaged U.S.S. Constellation? In Original and Extra Crispy Remastered versions?

Ben Robinson, the guy in charge of the subscription isn’t a fan of battle damaged models from what I remember. Even models that we only saw damaged on screen (Wolf 359 for example) are only issued by Eaglemoss in their undamaged form. Never say never but I wouldn’t get your hopes up.

I, too, headed over to the store and got a Merchantman today. Really happy to get this one. As many of you probably know, it's the only major ship from the first six movies that never got a Micro Machine (and yet the fat little Spacedock shuttle from STIV did?). This one was probably tricky, since there was never an official CG model made for filming to study, and the studio model was sold off well over a decade ago. They really did a superb job on this one and getting a chance to look at it up close really emphasizes what a quirky little ship this is.

The weathered look and the fact that the rocket-like engines are bunched together in an engine block (along with it's shady smuggling mission) makes it look like it would be better suited to being parked alongside the Millennium Falcon at Mos Eisley.

For some reason, the two strips on the back of the top section remind me of the Reliant.

Anyway, I'm really happy with this ship. It's been a while since I got any of the ships on my "wish list". Hopefully there will be more to come. I'm also planning a trip to Europe in a couple of weeks (including a couple of days in London) so maybe I'll be able to get a ship or two early. :)

What's also very neat about the Merchantman from a design standpoint is the asymmetry in the details. Looking at it from a distance, the overall design is symmetric, but coming closer you'll notice that almost no greeble, paneling or pipe is mirrored exactly on the other side. I especially like the extra pipe on the starboard side of the engine assembly that doesn't exist on the port side.

That's actually a pet peeve of mine with most of the later CGI generated ship designs. While a lot of them are really great, more often than not you'll find that they simply mirrored the design on the middle axis of the ship.

received my discovery collection version of the discovery enterprise today. it is just a scaled down version from the XL line (which means XL is headed to eBay), but happy to have it:

later this week is the worker bee.

The hell? I'm still on issue 10 and I'm a subscriber.
The Discoprise one does seem rather pointless if you own the XL version. Doesn't even look that much smaller.

The XL Discoprise or the normal one?
Yes, I'm asking if the XL or regular Discoprise is more in scale with Discovery. I'm thinking of getting one of each you see, and if the regular one looks better next to Discovery, that'll save some cash.

In a completely different geographical location, you as I understand it are in Scotland, @pst is somewhere in North America and they've been ahead all the Disco collection thus far, in an inverse of the normal collection.

i'm in california. i recently discovered my subscription is set to receive issues weekly, but it's a monthly delivery, meaning i will occasionally get a model sooner than most but then i won't get one for two months. it's just based on what they get in stock. issue 12 arrived yesterday, issue 13 is supposed to show up thursday or friday. it's odd.

regular version is more to scale but still too large:

But it’s a English company. That doesn’t make sense. It even says it’s out in the website.

discovery is a great model, but it’s one of the few that i want an XL version of.
Yeah, I'm a little surprised they haven't announced one yet.

Also, it seems like an XL Discovery would be roughly to scale with the regular scale Discoprise.

Isn't the Discovery already 10-10.5 inches long? Have they made any model, XL or not, any longer than that?

it is. and they haven't as far as i know.

but discovery is mostly engine, the primary and secondary hulls are relatively small compared to other ships in the collection, so i can see them doing something to get her in a larger format. especially since she's a hero ship.
