Interviewer: So, what inspired you to become a Trek novelist?

Author: Oh, uh, Gene Roddenberry's positive, optimistic view of the future, of course!

If I didn't agree with what @James Swallow says, I think for those sorts of ultimatum, I'd prefer a screamingly huge Discovery reference:evil:

Bashir and Ezri as couple were cute - as long as Ezri was counselor. As captain of the Aventine she will be preoccupied with commanding issues and always on the go.
I don't know if there is a proper love interest at the moment for Ezri.

You're probably right. Plus I don't see them getting back together at this point, even if he comes out of his current state and eventually gets past the loss of Sarina (which will take a long time). They're good friends, and I think they would do anything to help the other, but romance is most likely in the past now for them.

Well, when I did read comic books (in the usual sense, meaning thin periodicals), my taste ran more towards such Gold Key series as "The Pink Panther," "Uncle Scrooge," and the ever-popular "Super-Goof."

These days, the only comics I read are newspaper strips . Like Beetle Bailey (which I've been following since before I could read), The Wizard of Id, 9 Chickweed Lane, Mother Goose and Grimm, Doonesbury, Non Sequitur, Pearls Before Swine, Get Fuzzy, and On the Fastrack. And the only "comic books" I generally read are thick volumes of newspaper strip reprints (although I do have a copy of Jen Wang's graphic novel, The Prince and the Dressmaker, which intrigued me when I saw a small exhibit on it in the Cartoon Art Museum of San Francisco).

I’m a little surprised that David has been so open about this novel as nothing has been announced.

Even though The Captain’s Oath was on the S&S website Christopher was very circumspect about talking about it.

I wonder what the references could be? The captain wishing his ship could spin or something? :)

Swallows' reference wasn't because of an Ultimatum though.

I preferred to err on the side of caution because I was told there'd be an announcement coming soon (it took longer than expected) and I didn't want to steal its thunder.

True. The fact it might irk folks who think the Kelvin timeline isn't "Real Star Trek" is just a bonus...

I think it was @Stevil2001 who reminded me I've been doing this long enough that I took heat for daring to include one of the very first Enterprise references in my TOS novel In the Name of Honor.

So, you know...thanks for making me feel old. :D

IIRC, it's just Kirk reflecting on noteworthy captains of the past, among them Archer.

And another of them Peter Quincy Taggart.

IIRC Dilmore and Ward got more flack for the ENT-era prologue to A Time to Sow; that prompted me to write a now-lost satirical open letter on this very forum.

I know this isn't the point of the thread, but I never thought Julian and Ezri were a good couple. Once they got past the cutesy will-they-won't-they phase, it was constant bickering and making up and arguing and making up again. He always thought he knew better because of his genetic engineering. She always thought she knew better because of her centuries of experience, especially as she moved into command. None of that is a recipe for a stable, healthy relationship, and it just made sense to me when they broke up.

The Julian-Sarina relationship, on the other hand, at least featured two people traveling in the same direction rather than butting up against each other, even if it did have a slight whiff of desperation on Bashir's part (finally somebody I can relate to), and ended with vaguely fridgey undertones.

Bashir always was in love with Jadzia, but not with Ezri. By being with Dax he tried to be with a part of Jadzia.

A while back I used to go to a website that posted comic strips, and I loved Pearls Before Swine and Get Fuzzy.

Control 2: This Time is Personal :)

Sounds interesting but it sounds a bit similar to the A Time To... Series. I also don’t think what Picard did was that bad.
