In the first MU episode, when they discovered the Defiant had crossed over into the other universe, Lorca points out that, as a Constitution-class ship, it couldn't have traveled by spore drive. They'd already discussed that the Defiant was stolen from their future, so it was on the table that other ships could've been fitted with DASH drives in the coming years.

There's an acronym that never caught on.

I don’t know why traveling with the spore drive was never called ‘dashing’.

They thought about it in the mess hall, it'd be a Dine and DASH.

It's very useful when I get tired of saying "spore" every other word, even if it's only know to people who read forums like this or are innately suspicious of potential backronyms and other contortions of language.

Last weeks episode referred to English as 'Federation Standard'. I believe that term has popped up in the books before?

Memory-Alpha doesn't seem to think so, they only have New Eden listed as a source.

And a quick transcript search doesn't give any results.

Yeah, "Federation Standard" was never canon until last week.

I never realized that! Does anyone know where the term was introduced?

Memory Beta claims it goes as far back as Mission to Horatius, but I can't confirm.

The same episode also used the old-school UFP logo from that manual, so it wouldn't surprise me.

Experimenting with snippet view on Google Books, it looks like Mission to Horatius uses "Earth Basic," but the Memory Beta page lumps a bunch of different space names for English into one page, so it doesn't differentiate.

I’ve not read Section 31 Control yet, though I have a very basic idea of the big reveal. Was the last scene of tonight’s episode a huge occurance in canon/Litverse crossover history?

I got excited when they said Control at the end but it could be something very different here.

It is, at the very least, a shout out to litverse fans.

You might like to think so… but it's not.
