I reckon, if CBS used designs in the past without asking or paying. It could also be a case of CBS=$$$, but where else is the estate getting money from? They should just take what they can at this point.

CBS has in the past, told the STO Dev's specifically that the designs from The Original Tech Manual are off limits and instead of dishing out some cash, CBS told the first season production team to pull the Federation Seal symbol from the show.
That doesn't bode well for any future slips.
Perhaps we'll hear from Kurtzman at some future point that all is well and a deal was worked out.

I find it more than a little irksome that Eaglemoss makes shit like this but won't consider making a GODDAMN ENTERPRISE. The Enterprise 1701-A at the end of Beyond. I fear it will be the only Enterprise in history that will not exist as a model kit/display model/toy of some kind.
Give it time. They’re under contract to do only large versions of the Kelvinverse ships. This likely requires a lot of extra capital and R&D to do the higher-detailed/large-scale ships properly and, therefore, more time.
They made the Enterprise-J, they'll get to that one sooner or later. Possibly sooner, with ST14 put on ice. I'd think a big reason for not doing it at the same time as the Franklin, Swarm ship, and swoopy Enterprise is they wanted to wait to see if and how the design was tweaked for the next movie when it'd be headlining. Plus, you know, tie-in timing and building on buzz and all that good stuff. Better to save it for the Trek14 publicity blitz than release it in the lean years.

Actually, the Daughter was very pizzed off that the Federation Seal used for a moment in Season-1 looked so much like her father's design and had the Estate Lawyers contact CBS about it.
Thus it getting pulled.
Drexler and the folks working on the calendars have been very careful to get permission/approval from the Joseph Estate in each case.

I wish the cylindrical nacelles had been left in place. Those are almost perfect tributes to both the TOS and ENT designs. Beautiful.
You and me both. I get wanting his own show to have a different take on Trek but...no round nacelles? That is just ludicrous and baffling.
Quite clearly he was all about distancing the look of Discovery from previous Treks.
Well, he went too far.
Yet it was supposed to be a sequel and a prequel.
