    Sounds like a dumb idea.

I'm savoring the three minutes of purist triumphalism preceding the many months of "Ruined Forever!!!" that will follow the first details of casting and of what Reitman and Sony really have in mind.

    Calling it now:
    Story will be Gozer’s Revenge.
Ghostbusters are too old for this shit and find a few misfits to train as the next generation.
If they make a trilogy, they might get killed off at a rate of one per movie.

Even though I know what the day is, I needed to check the date just to be sure. This announcement feels two and a half months too early.

I love the idea of a new movie and I played the heck out of the video game that really felt like a great 3rd movie to me (I genuinely laughed many times while playing).

But waiting this long with Ramis' passing (Egon was always my favourite) removes any enthusiasm for the movie. If he were alive and involved, I'd be first in line on opening night, even if it had 2% on rotten tomatoes. But it just feels almost wrong at this point.

This is what they should have announced in 2014 and this is what should have been made long before that even. Don't expect Murray to show up in it. I thought that obligation was fulfilled with the 2016 film appearance.

    Why?

    Just "why?"

What makes anyone believe that this is a good idea or that it will be more successful than the reboot?

The original Ghostbusters series is as dead as Harold Ramis (not being offensive here, just stating a fact); let it stay that way.

Murray MUST be involved, otherwise this film couldn't be made. ALL of the surviving GB actors have to approve a third film. If this is getting off the ground at all, then logically speaking, Murray must have given the OK.

I like the first two movies, so I'm very curious about this, but like others have said I won't get to excited until we know for a fact that this will be happening.
As for Murray, I'd be absolutely shocked if he made more than a short cameo. I know one of the last times they were trying to do a third one he was supposed to just appear as a ghost in one scene, maybe they'll just stick to that plan.
I'm assuming this will probably put an end to the comics, which is a shame because I enjoyed the ones I read a while back.

He wanted to be killed off and come back as a ghost in a third film, which was one of the things that held up a third for over a decade. I read somewhere it's finally going to happen, he'll be killed off and made a ghost in this film.

This sounds familiar, regarding Bill Murray.

And the news itself does conjure up these old cobwebs:
    https://www.forbes.com/sites/davego...only-supposed-to-talk-about-one/#3b61686c5513

Fun fact: a few months after the initial dust from Paul Feig 2016 settled, there was talk of the next project becoming a crossover of both universes. News today contradicts this but .... has anyone heard from Dan Aykroyd yet? Always interesting what he has to say.

EDIT: I must add that Jason Reitman is in Ghostbusters 2. He's the kid at the birthday party that tells Ray that "my dad says that you guys are full of crap!"

Considering the unmitigated disaster that was Ghost Busters 2 (with the original cast); and the fact even for GB2 a lot of the original cast really didn't want to do it, (and lets not mention the situation with the attempted reboot): Even though I still love the original 1984 film, no, not really excited for this/wondering why they're bothering at this point.

Starts with an M and ends with 'oney.' They'll have mine, and if they do it right, they'll have lots of people's money. [Insert Futurama Fry take my money meme]

Imagine if they made a good Ghostbusters movie with the original surviving cast, set up new recruits to continue the story and made it good enough to be re-watchable? I don't see where it says it's impossible to do that.

Moranis doesn't act any more but Annie Potts, Sigourney Weaver could return.

I am so okay with Bill Murray being killed off and becoming a ghost in this. At first I thought this idea sucked but this could be good for everyone involved. The studio, the fans, and Bill Murray himself.

I'm more interested in seeing this than the recent reboot, however nostalgia likely plays a large part in that. I might watch the reboot when I catch it on TV at some point but it just didn't generate enough interest for me to spend my money at the box office for it.

But I'll believe it when they actually start filming.

I might have been interested in this... twenty years ago. Just a ship that has sailed.

Yeah, I've never quite gotten the decades-long fascination with the notion that this thing should be revived. Talk about nostalgia...the original was a brilliant, funny one-off, the sequel was shit, and the concept got a good long run on The Real Ghostbusters.

A remake made Hollywood sense, unnecessary though it was, and I enjoyed it.

You know what would get me a little excited? Hearing that the team who made Into The Spider-Verse had been put in charge of doing an animated Ghostbuster project.
