Title Sequence Updated for Season 2

"Invented by Emory Erickson" next to the transporter pad.

Now this makes me want to go over all the writing in the opening.

As much frustration as I have with DSC and its producers it's little moments like that which have made me a lot more forgiving than I might otherwise be. Even ENT mentioned Emory Erickson just once in his own episode and that was it. JJ's films never made even a passing reference to the inventor of the transporter.

Well done. It may not be much, but points for continuity.

I'm not saying there's anything to this, but God knows this show is not exactly above telegraphing its' big reveals (i.e. Tyler). Nothing would make me happier than for Discovery to legitimately surprise me, but at the same time, I could totally see this show bringing the Romulans into the fold.

I expected the title sequence to change so I am not suprised that all the Klingon motifs were replaced. But still too much emphasis on props (and sets). I hoped they would replace or at least pep up the music but sadly they stayed with the very dull theme.

I like the music and the visuals.
The music is very "Star Trek" while still being original to DSC. It's a little bland for my taste but okay.
I love the sepia tones and the cut away views of the equipment but I'm a draftsman and a little biased towards technical drawings. I've already downloaded a screen grab of "The Chair".

Only omission I notice is the Klingon weaponry replaced by more Trek iconography like the IDIC and the TOS captain's chair. Assuming more seasons will come about, I like that there will always be a new variation of the title sequence each season. Still wish the Mirror episodes from S1 simply inverted the titles, as demonstrated on many YouTube fan vids.

It's not the TOS (or the Cage) chair, there are a few differences, noticeably the control panels are angled inwards toward the chair, and the Dias is shaped differently

This appears to be the DSC version of the famous chair.

There also appears to be some sort of cured support bar behind it?

Looks like they kept the wood armrests though.

I like it.

Same as season 1: It's neither my favourite visuals (ENT is), nor my favourite music (TOS/TNG), and it's not the great combo that VOY was.

But it's unique and different. I much rather have this - their own spin on things - than a generic copy of the older Trek title sequences.

As fot the changes: I like that the Klingon stuff is thrown out. I like that they have apparently "seasonal" images. The "Enterprise"-chair is a great update, but I fully expect the entire Ent-bridge to be a very generic DIS-bridge, only with the chair added in the middle, not a faithfull update of the TOS bridge.

Overall, it's fine. Not great. But has a clear, distinct identity. Which I like.

Is the "assembling phaser" part the same? I swear it looked more TOS-like.

Overall, I like it. The part with the division deltas suspended over a transporter pad felt a little busy to my eyes, but forgivable.

That angel still keeps reminding me of Thomas Harris's "Red Dragon." I truly doubt that it has anything to do with the Romulans, but I've wrong before when I ruled something out for being too obvious.

I was actually drawn more to the "Discovery Preview" article link at the bottom (remember, I'm still stuck in the MU, in the first season, and won't be seeing any of the second season until the DVD comes out), and the pictures showing yet another variation of the TOS uniforms (perhaps the missing link between Cage-era and TOS era, but if so, then what about the uniforms in "Where No Man . . . ," and why metallic badges instead of embroidered insigniae?) alongside the DSC uniforms. (And why is the woman in red [Pike's first officer?] wearing dual boom mics? Did she just come out of a spacesuit?)

But it still kind of begs the question of why the radically different DSC uniforms are there at all.
Well, I just hope the "Eject Ion Pod" button is not so easy to accidentally press.
Hmm. As I recall, FJS's SFTM says the buttons are programmable in function, with the function labels dynamically generated by the ship's computer.

but I fully expect the entire Ent-bridge to be a very generic DIS-bridge, only with the chair added in the middle, not a faithfull update of the TOS bridge.

If I was doing it, and needed to show the bridge of the Enterprise briefly, assuming they are thinking about making a Pike Enterprise show in the future, I'd build the chair and shoot Pike in it, tight with a shallow depth of field. He's in front of a green screen and I'd put a super blurry version of the TOS bridge behind him, So when they build the updated Enterprise bridge for real, it's still a match.

I think you'll be wrong. I'm pretty confident the bridge will be faithful to the original, with the needed updates for 21st century production values.

The differences in the look of the uniforms and badges are probably just a function of this being a show made in 2018-19. I think it's meant to be the same as the uniforms (from an in-universe standpoint) from the production run of TOS, but just updated for our time as modern TV viewers. It's close enough for me to imagine that they are.

I assume the Enterprise itself will be similarly updated for a 21st-century TV show, but will be meant to connote the idea that it is the same ship in-universe of which Kirk eventually took command.

(And why is the woman in red [Pike's first officer?] wearing dual boom mics? Did she just come out of a spacesuit?)
That's not "Number One." Pike's Number One is being played by Rebecca Romijn and wears gold, and will be the same character Majel Barrett played in The Cage:

I don't know who that character wearing red is (maybe just a minor character), but the things on her face could be anything -- maybe a communication device, maybe a breathing aid......I don't know, but I suppose we'll find out.

Maybe she's from a race of quiet talkers, and those are there to amplify her speech .

But it still kind of begs the question of why the radically different DSC uniforms are there at all.
Maybe as a way of connecting ENT to TOS. The DSC uniforms are slightly reminiscent of ENT, but less jump-suity.

I was hoping that this "preview" would have included credits so that we would go into Season 2 knowing exactly who the Series Regulars are beyond the 5 we already knew were returning, but, that disappointment aside, I like the updated visuals and think it's neat that they're establishing a pattern of switching things up ever so slightly from season to season.
