Supergirl - Season Four

jeezus actors playing roles that are different age than their own is as old as Hollywood. As old as the first live theatres too! I never understand why this is always treated as an issue.

Sean Connery is only 12 years older than Harrison Ford! Given that some of you do not know who who Gene Hackman is you probably have no idea who Connery is either. Harrison Ford is married to that lady who played Cat Grant and they are the same age... ;)

There are several problems with that i09 article, most of them stemming from willful ignorance.

For example, we know with complete certainty that Mehcad Brooks and Calista Flockhart were cast to play characters that are several years younger than they themselves are in real life, and it was never once said that Cat is of contemporaneous age with Clark and Lois, merely that she worked at the Daily Planet with them, had romantic interest in Clark, and considered herself to be in a semi-personal/semi-professional rivalry with Lois, nome of which are things that require her to be the same age as - or close in age to - them.

As far as Jon Cryer is concerned, the only potential issue with his real-life age comes in terms of how he contrasts, physically, with Brenda Strong and Katie McGrath, and whether or not he will be believable as a man in his late 30s/early 40s in relation to them.

Maybe the fact they are going for for someone known for comedy means they really are looking at the Gene Hackman version. I bet he even gets a bad wig instead of being bald as well. Which seems okay to me. Of course this also brings me back to my idea of him escaping prision by switching bodies with someone. Maybe he puts his mind inside some security guard guy who happens to be Cryer and simply walks out the front door of prision.

It happens in soap operas all the time. Especially when they recast the parent with someone significantly younger. Or age up a character that goes from being 10 to 30 overnight.

That seems inconsistent with what Supergirl has established before about Lex as a serious menace. Besides, comic actors often prove to be excellent dramatic actors given the chance.

Here' IGN's story about his casting. Apparently this is the second Luthor Cryer has played, he was Lex's nephew Lenny in Superman IV.
I have to admit, he's not a name that leapt to mind for me as a potential Lex, but I'm sure he'll be great.

Oh, Supergirl. Never stop casting the absolute worst guest actors (note I said worst guest actors, not regulars). At least this time its only a stupid casting choice, not hiring a horrible person for a role like they've done before. Still, when it comes to just plain stupid casting choices, this really is the worst. At this rate, I can't wait until they bring in Jaleel white as Martian manhunter's cousin Ur Kell :rommie:

He's got the hairline for it

Well you can be funny and a menace. Granted I am now just having bad thoughts of Jesse Eisenbergs, Lex.

Which is why I said "serious menace." The way characters have talked about Lex, and the way he was portrayed as a boy in Lena's flashback, does not seem consistent with the idea of Luthor as a comical sort of guy. And he shouldn't be. Lex Luthor is too self-important to act the buffoon. His sense of humor should be dry and cruel, to the extent that he has one -- which he doesn't where his own ego or Superman is concerned.

IIIC, Cryer's character on NCIS was a complete 180 degree turn from his comedic work. I agree with the poster that suspected this casting choice could be inspired like when Keaton was chosen for Batman.

I dunno, that clip still doesn't encourage me. His voice is kind of annoying, and his look and mannerisms seem a poor match for Lex Luthor.

Lex could have time travelled, and lived in a different era for a decade, or that may not be his original body, or he could have had plastic surgery to avoid the authorities, or had plastic surgery/ a body swap to assume a specific pre-existing life to forward a shenanigan?

Or maybe Lena is 58 years old, but REALLY takes care of herself well?
