Im right now watching an episode where Jake and Nog are hanging around Quark’s bar. The allow children to hang out at a bar?

Nog had a job there. He sometimes worked for Quark. As a good Ferengi he exploits Family members. And Jake....? Ben Sisko wasn't fond of their friendship at the beginning. It changed when Nog went to Starfleet and showed more responsibility.
For business reasons Ferengi don't seem to pay attention to strict Youth Protection Acts. They are customers after all. As long as there are no threats of penalty charges in the event of an infringement.

So long as they are kept from certain activities (drinking alcohol, gambling, or using some holosuite programs) what's the harm?

Quark's would be better called a pub, a place to eat, drink, talk, and be entertained, not necessarily a place to get drunk.

AS far as bars/pubs/saloons/drinking holes/etc. go, Quark's is pretty innocuous. And I'm pretty sure Quark isn't going to risk pissing off the station commander by getting his son drunk.

Maybe Bajor has no drinking age. But Quark is smart enough not to get Starfleet kids drunk.

Also Starfleet kids have no money.

It's even more like the Ferengi don't have such restrictions, parting drunk fools from their money is even easier than sober ones.

Yeah, but Quark's bar would fall under Bajoran law.

Maybe, but maybe not. Sisko told Quark that if he runs honest games he'll have no trouble. I bet a bar with gambling would not be free to operate on Bajor.

More importantly: Quark's falls under Odo Law.

Would they? Maybe before the Occupation. If there were gambling establishments that stayed alive by bribing Cardies would shutting them down be a priority if they shifted those bribes to Bajorans or even better, attracted tourist cash?

Sort of a tangent, this, but why not have the subject title "Jake and Nog Walk into a Bar"?

    Works even better as:

"Jake, Nog, and Dax Walk into a Bar"?

And my favorite bar joke involves the proton, electron, and neutron that walk in and the neutron is happy because the bartender says there's no charge...

I visited the bar/pub plenty of times and bought a Fanta orange when I was a little feller. Depends on the bar, the laws and the social norms. You'd have problems getting in after certain hours of course but popping into a place that serves food/drinks probably isn't that big a deal if you are a young adult. .

What I am curious about is if they ever lost their virginity. It was interesting that out of all the characters they were the ones who never really had a strong romantic storyline. You had one bad double date,Jake dating a Dabo girl for a little bit in season 3 but then you get nothing. Unless you count the space vampire sucking out Jake's writing talents in "The Muse."

I've grown up in big cities, and small towns, Seoul S. Korea 25 M Metro, Chicago, and small towns like in Michigan 350 Maybe, with college 1k+ more.Very small college, very small town. Bars there are always open to kids, in small towns like where i currently live, even after 9 pm, since there's nothing else at all. Everything else closes at 7-9 pm.

I’d be shocked if Jake weren’t dating a lot of Bajorans through especially the later seasons and getting to their quarters once in a while.

I seem to recall lines in DS9 that imply starfleet officers deployed in capitalist places get a stipend. But a small one, and their kids don’t. If they didn’t no way Bashir and O’Brien get to the holosuite so often.

Not really fair to the kids growing up where there are very limited free recreational opportunities to have no stipend. Doesn't have to be a lot, but Nog would get tired of treating Jake to sodas at Quark's and Jake never reciprocating after a while.

I’m sure he has an allowance out of his father’s stipend.
