Spoilers Season 2 Trailer

MOTHERFUCKER! They did it! They fucking DID IT! They retconned their stupid mullrat klingons to only have been shaved! FUCKING YES!!!!!! Do they still look somewhat weird, with too much make-up and weird hands? Yeah... But are they believable as "our" klingons? Abso-fucking-lutely! I love it! I really, really love it! Takes away one of my biggest grievances about the first season!

This isn't a retcon.

They've been saying since pre-release of Season 1 that Klingons have hair, they've just never been consistent on why they shaved it all off.

One person said it was because it helped them use the sensory organs in their ridges, another said it was ritualistic.

Which seems like the most likely, apropos answer, given the cultish nature of T'Kuvma's group.
Well Mary Chieffo said today it was because of the war. So that's a third reason.

Also every Klingon, even those outside of T'Kuvma's group were bald, so it wasn't just that.

All of them can be true as well. Shaving heads is common among humans for a variety of reasons. I don't understand how this is a retcon when cultural variation among our own species is fully accepted. But Klingons? Perish the thought! :brickwall:

Oh no. They gonna' f--- this up. They gonna' rehash Babylon 5's Vorlons..
One could only hope its that good. It's at least intriguing enough of a concept.
  • Cpt. Pike
Okay - I can see him work. He seems to be a genuine good guy, and bringing the whole Star Trek spirit and humanistic attitude back....
Thus far, he's the best part of the trailers, next to Spock and Burnham and Tilly.
Ha! I KNEW it! I predicted in every thread they would backtrack on that from season 2 onward, and go back to something closer to the classic design. Positively surprised they are THIS faithfull though.
Backtrack? Oh, yes, because obviously no ship can have the same designation for reasons.
They at least want us to think that combat will play a much more minor role this season.
They do? I did not get that vibe...

Who is the woman that is talking about Spock and red angels and hugging Burnham. I assume it is Amanda.

Still not sure how L'Rell kept shaving her head while she was handcuffed in Discovery's brig.

Klingon hair takes longer to grow

Or

A member of Discovery's crew did it for her in keep with rules and regulations about the treatment of prisoners.

Take your pick.

Interestingly, no source outside of that episode has called it D7 since.

Everything since has called it 'Sech' which is Klingon for 'Torch'.

D7 I still think is the Starfleet name for it.

I assuming this guy is a Dahar Master

Now I know Star Trek Online isn’t canon but didn’t they say there there were only seven Iconians around? Could these red angels be them?

It's amazing that with Pike, Number One, Spock, mysterious signals and creatures appearing across the galaxy, Saru and Burnham developments, exciting expeditions through asteroid fields, disabled starships, Stamets extracting something from Tilley, cool environmental suits, etc...our deepest discussions have been about hair and beards.

I mean no joke.....what the hell are we going on about??
