I would agree 'strange new worlds' aspect is the at the heart of the mystique, but 'the commentary' is self-indulgent, self-aggrandizing pretense.
I've been a major detractor of STD thus far, but I do think there's some cool stuff in this trailer.
My main issue is this Spock story line. Stop trying to tie everything to TOS. Make something new.

Decent trailer. I think I liked the fun of the Lenny Kravitz one better and we got to see more of the bridge staff like Detmer. One thing I do like is it feels like they are going back to exploring strange new worlds and phenomena, which was also part of the mystique of trek next to the commentary. I'm intrigued by the signals and the red angel thing.
Yeah? Like a whole show based on Captain Picard...oh, wait, that's not really 'new' either is it?I've been a major detractor of STD thus far, but I do think there's some cool stuff in this trailer.

Unfortunately your fellow detractors are clamoring for things to be as much like the Trek they're familiar with as possible. You might want to talk to them at the monthly meeting :PStop trying to tie everything to TOS. Make something new.
^^^^^^^^^^^^My reactions to the trailer:
- Red angels
Oh no. They gonna' f--- this up. They gonna' rehash Babylon 5's Vorlons..
I'm going to say that the old Klingon was born the way he look and it probably why he attacked L'rell, Taylor and the other Klingons. He probably piss off at them, for having a operation to change their look, to look like his people.
Ship to ship combat really didn't play all that big of a role in the first season either. One prediction:
That weird machine Stamets points at tilly results in some ball of...something...being pulled out of her.
That's Culber. Green spore Culber settled down on her. At some point during the season, either he starts manifesting in Tilly or somehow Stamets gets the idea to "pull it out." And it grows into Culber.
