Do we know why Pike and co are in the different uniforms?

Found some neat Shenzhou concept art that is one better lit and designed, and was still using the TOS uniforms. Looks smart.
Didn’t the novel describe them using the Cage uniforms though? Not these TOS/DSC hybrids?But decided in consultation with the Writers' Room. And about to become canon.
The DSC tie-in novels are effectively Canon, because the writers of said novels are working directly with the DSC television crew to maintain consistency and the DSC writers have explicitly stated that they have no intention of overriding the novels unless there's an absolute necessity to do so.
Yeppers. In Desperate Hours the crew of the Shenzhou have the DSC uniforms on (which have been around since as early as the late 2240's) while the crew of the Enterprise under Pike are wearing the "pilot-era" uniform coined as an alternate exploration uniform. The novel is set in 2255 a little less than one year after the events of The Cage. As for what we see in the DSC season 2 trailer (setting being the end of 2257 early 2258) it is definitely supposed to be the TOS uniform not the pilot-era uniform. Chances are at some point following the close of the Klingon-Federation War Starfleet began changing uniforms over to the TOS uniform and there is a good chance by season 3 (presuming we get that far) everyone will be changed over to the new re-imagined TOS uniforms.
I wonder if anyone of the Discovery's crew will comment on the uniforms.

How specific did you want a text-based story to get when describing Enterprise uniforms? Isn't it enough that they came in gold, blue [and red] and looked different to Shenzou uniforms?

The jersey had an ill fitting ribbed collar and material was similar to the 20th Century fabric called velour . One seam looked like a zipper, but was definitely not a zipper...
True what a shame n waste IMO. I have learned to look past the skater's uni you note, took some work, but just not a good ST look, IMO anyways.
Didn't want Kurtzman or any of JJ'S crew running Discovery, again IMO
