Batwoman could soon be coming to the “Arrow”-verse.

Variety has learned that The CW is developing a series about the DC superhero that would debut in 2019 should it get picked up. News of the development comes after the network announced in May that the character would appear in the annual crossover event between four of the CW’s DC shows: “The Flash,” “Arrow,” “Legends of Tomorrow,” and “Supergirl.”

In the series, Kate Kane, armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.

Caroline Dries will serve as the writer and executive producer on the project. Dries has a long history with CW, having worked as a writer and producer on “The Vampire Diaries” and the network’s new iteration of “Melrose Place.” She also worked as a writer on “Smallville,” which centered on Clark Kent before he become Superman. Dries is repped by WME.

Now if we could just get a batman tv series instead of his bat family members

Nice, looking forward to it. :techman:

I guess it'll air as a replacement for Black Lightning or Legends, both of which have shorter season than the other Arrowverse shows. Hope we hear more about it soon, I wonder if casting's already done and we might get an announcement at SDCC?

It's also customary to get into the whole with "Which Earth?" discussions when a new show is announced, so your predictions please... ;)

Honestly, if they can push their political agenda away from Supergirl and onto this show, fine. There's nothing in the description of this show that makes me want to watch it. But that's just me. That's open to change though if there are characters I care about, like Batman himself, or Nightwing.

Well this might be interesti-

*Sees that Writer/Producer worked on The Vampire Diaries*

Well, fuck. It looks like CW has decided that it will never have a good super hero TV show ever again. Can someone go back in time and bring the good writers of The Flash and Arrow into the present? CW desperately needs shows with writers of the same quality as the Flash Season 1/2 and Arrow Season 1/2 writers. Either that or they need those writers from before they lost all ability to write. Or maybe DC should stop letting CW ruin the characters that DC itself doesn't feel like personally ruining.

I haven't seen that. Of the stuff she's written I've only seen Smallville and I have no idea which episodes are hers, but I suppose there's no point in saying let's wait and see what she does with this before judging it, is there... :p

Very cool. Since we can't get a Batman Arrowverse show, this will be way to get to explore their version of Gotham. The LGTB aspect should be a nice way to make it feel like more than just a show about Batman with boobs. I wonder if they'll just handle Batman the way Supergirl handled Superman in the early episodes?

Its the CW. They haven't produced anything worthwhile in years, and destroyed shows that used to be great. So, yeah, someone who worked on CW's attempt to get Twilight fans to watch their channel isn't going to help cW's terrible track record.

It sucks because I like batwoman a lot, but the CW is the absolute worst network for it since all their superhero stuff is shit at this point.

I'm having a brain fart, have we gotten an Arrowverse version of Renee Montoya yet?

Supergirl was developed specifically with Supermsn existing but largely uninvolved; based on the synopsis blurb, this sounds like it's been developed specifically without Batman existing at all.

No prediction, just a hope that it's on Earth-38. With so many Earth-1 shows, I feel there should be a second Earth-38 show to balance them out a bit. Besides, a Super/Bat pairing is natural, though I'd rather see Supergirl pair up with Batgirl.

It's not that hard to keep Batman out of a Kate Kane Batwoman story, since they aren't exactly close, despite being cousins. He'll probably be mentioned as a presence in Gotham but one who travels in different circles.

Or... if it is on Earth-38, then that's a world where Superman has already been operating for something like 15 years now, so perhaps Batman would have been as well. And he wouldn't have the advantage of slowed Kryptonian aging or invulnerability. So he might be slowing down and close to retirement.

I'll never understand why so many are against justice, except maybe that they knew they benefit from others not being treated equally and don't want it to stop.

Some people are raised to believe that the world is a zero-sum game, that the only way for some people to win is for others to lose. They assume that others' gain has to mean their loss. It never occurs to them that what helps others can also help them.

Nope, the only live-action Montoya appeared briefly on Gotham but was inexplicably dropped halfway through season 1.

In the comics Batwoman is not a part of the Batfamily(at least initially) even though ironically she's the only one who's actually Bruce's blood relative of the lot. :D

She's not trained by Bruce, she doesn't even know Bruce is Batman, so they have a perfectly good excuse for him not showing up, particularly since Bruce doesn't have superspeed so he can't be expected to show up at a moment's notice, though I'm sure that won't stop some people from "Where's Batman?"-ing all over the thread when the show starts :p

That would ruin Supergirl, I don't see how having two shows with a positive political agenda can be a bad thing.

Oh, I had assume since they were cousins and both "Bat" heroes that they were a lot closer than that.
I was just skimming through Renee's Wikipedia and it doesn't mention her being in a relationship with Batwoman at all. I could have sworn I read somewhere that they were.

That was in 52.
