I can honestly say: I have no idea what is going on there. But of course I want to know more. So let's see what Titan can tell me ...
And it is for real! There will be an audiobook of "Star Trek Prometheus". There is a teaser in the new podcast of Big Finish. (At about 12:40.) That is so awesome! (Thanks TrekBBS for notifying us authors, since nobody elso did.

Well, it should be interesting to hear how they pronounce all the names, heh heh.
And I have to correct myself. It SEEMS to be real. In fact I am not sure what to make of the announcement of BiFi. Because, again, neither Christian nor I were told anything about audiobooks. And as of now I have no confirmation from any publisher (Cross Cult or Titan).
Do you hold all the copyrights? In that case they'd have to notice you and you might have a chance to sue them for a considerable sum. Stress is on *all* copyrights, though - many authors overlook some small print and get cheated out of their earnings. Still, it won't harm to check it out in detail. You can only win. (LOL that sounds like "there can be only one...")
Big Finish are pretty good, though, from the pov of the customer - they have very good actors/speakers and technitians.

If they are just doing audiobooks they could do the autobiographies? If they can get the right readers (Shatner for Kirk, Sir Pat for Picard and Quinto or whoever may play him in Discovery for Spock)
DESTINY (post-Nemesis mega Borg battle crossover) was popular but there's no audiobook for it yet.

We're in contact with every party involved to sort things out. Let's see what they have to say. (And in Germany authors normally get paid for licences, it's a split between them and the publisher selling the rights.)

No one who writes licenced tie-in fiction owns “all the copyrights.” That’s not how it works. The IP owner usually owns the copyright, singular, as well as related rights like ebook rights, international sales rights, audiobook rights, etc. I don’t know about Germany, but in the US, if you write a Star Trek novel, CBS owns it, period. Whether there’s an audiobook and who produces it isn’t up to the author.
In the UK things can be different; Doctor Who novelists retain the rights to the stuff they create, so they can produce spinoffs like Bernice Summerfield and Faction Paradox as long as they don’t use anything the BBC owns. But with Star Trek, for example, Diane Carey couldn’t spin New Earth off into a series all her own, even if she drops any references to Starfleet, Vulcans, etc.
That's interesting. Thank you, SR. Over here in Germany things are much better for the writers. If they use characters someone else invented they'll have to get the inventor's permissionand pay him or her a fee or a percentage of their profits. But for everything that's genuinely yours (plot, character interaction, dialogue, new characters etc) you own the full rights unless you decide to give some of them away, for example to your publisher. Human nature being what it is, everyone tries to cheat you out of your rights; hence it's always vital to read the small print.
There used to be a sort of trade union for authors, the AG Wort (roughly translated "word-consortium") who assisted you with legal problems and helped you publish your works. They received a moderate fee for their efforts but they dispersed in 2012 so that afaik young authors nowadays don't get any asistance anymore. All the more important for them to keep as many copyright options as they can - the royalties will have to last till their next book is out.
And my apologies for the terrible grammar in my previous post! They must notify you, of course, not notice you. Goes to show that even a seasoned proof reader needs help now and then. And a vacation and a pound of chocolates *sigh* (not necessariy in that order )

This is great! I remember bumping into Big Finish's Nick Briggs a year or so back and we briefly discussed Trek audios and the Prometheus novels. I'm sure they'll do great work with them!

But in this case CC owns the worldwide rights to do what they want with the three existing STP books (i.e. sell the rights for audiobooks etc.), BUT they are not allowed to publish more stories without a new contract with CBS. Because of course, ST is owned by CBS. (And so I guess CBS could issue new STP books without asking us, but I'm not sure about this.)
