So if they get a suntan they end up like the Hulk?

This happened in the 90s...

And this is Clark from Flashpoint, a mirror universe, where he was raised in an underground bunker by the US Army.

Rewatched season 3's premiere "Girl of Steel" last night and this speech by Lena at the dedication of the GoS statue on the waterfront park struck me.

Lena Luthor: (CROWD APPLAUDS) Now, I know you all didn't come here to see me. So, I'll start with the good stuff, and then I'll say just a few very brief words. My fellow citizens of National City, the Girl of Steel. (CROWD APPLAUDS AND CHEERS AS STATUE IS UNVEILED) There you are. I am so honored to be able to present this statue of our hometown hero. Some of you must be thinking, I know. It's a cold day in hell, a Luthor praising a Kryptonian. But ever since I came here, she has been an inspiration to me. She's been a mentor, and most importantly, she's been a friend.

It struck me because by episode 19, Lena is proudly disclaiming any relationship with Supergirl beyond "work".

If Sam doesn't return in season 4 and Kara is still gone from Catco on her sabbatical (wonder if Lena tried to call her and tell her Mon'el went back to the future?), and Supergirl is just a work frenemy...who will Lena gal pal around with in season 4?

Miss Tessmacher?

Alex?

If "The Conners" don't work out, maybe Mary McGowan (Winn Schott's mom) will come back.

Or my personal fav, bring back Lucy Lane! (Just what James needs, right?)

Lucy would throw a monkey wrench into Lena's like... not because of James, that ship has sailed.
No... just imagine what would happen when she finds out that Kara is Supergirl and that Lucy already knew.

On a new topic, does anyone have any thoughts on the differences between this Supergirl (played by Melissa Benoist) and the Supergirl on Smallville (played by Laura Vandervoot)?

I was watching some old episodes of Smallville that feature Kara and I was struck by the huge difference in portrayal. For one, Laura Vandervoot oozes a certain "supermodel blonde" look whereas Melissa Benoist is much more of a sweet, cute "girl next door" type. Also, on Smallville, Kara starts off very alien in her behavior since she is suddenly awoken from cryo. She starts off very Kryptonian and fixated on her mission and only later gradually learns to act more "human" to fit in. On the CW's Supergirl, Kara has already been living on Earth for years so we see a Kara that is already very assimilated into human society. Laura's Kara seems to have a harshness to her sometimes whereas Melissa's Kara is much sweeter. Also, Smallville seemed to "sex up" Kara like the scene where she is walks out in a bikini and tells Lana she is practicing for Miss Sweet Corn. It's a scene that seems rather gratuitous and clearly meant just to accentuate Laura Vandervoot's statuesque physique. The CW's Supergirl seems to be going more of a feminist angle, emphasizing Kara's abilities and smarts rather than her looks.

Finally finished S3.
So Kara was split into two by the same Kryptonian rock that split Sam/Reign? I had trouble seeing that during the fight but that was what I discerned must have happened.
I knew Winn(actor) was going to part time status so the reveal he would be going to the future didn't shock me. I only hope that when Winn's story comes around we get a story set in the future. Like how we went to Mars this year. I'd like to see some more LEGION characters and what their future looks like. Kind of like how we visited Argo and it was still Kryptonian and advanced.

I will say the nod to Superman being in Madagascar was funny but I get that in-story they(writers) understand they have to address where Clark is while all this Kryptonian matters are going on. I personally like this TV Superman and hope we can get him some more next year. An arc where he helps watch over National City while Kara is in the future with LEGION would please me.
I'd like Lena and Tessmacher to improve Red Tornado.
Curious where we go with James and the Guardian reveal.
Martian Manhunter is still one of my favorite characters on the show(Ostrander run in the 90s!)

Hoping that SG and Black Lightning are revealed to be on the same Earth. Would like an easy team up that doesn't require Breaching and Earth jumping.

You pretty much summed it up. Smallville was pretty much reflecting the comics' more aloof yet oversexualized take on the character at the time, I think, while Supergirl's take is more of an amalgam of the character's portrayals over different eras. Benoist's portrayal is definitely superior, as is true of most things about Supergirl in comparison to Smallville.

Aloofness is a good word to describe Smallville's Kara. And yes, I agree that Melissa's Kara is much better. Her Kara is much developed as a character of course since she has an entire show about her. But also, Melissa's Kara is much more of a real superhero that is completely devoted to saving people and protecting National City.

Kara went from superior alien looking down on mere humans to running in the local annual "Miss Sweet Corn" pageant 2 episodes later.

Ten years later and I am still face palming from how quickly she assimilated with the white trash of Smallville.

Talking of Smallville Lena seems to kinda be going down the same route as the Lex and Clark relationship. Well some similarities anyway.

Wow, I didn't know you could see the future. Can you give me next week's lotto numbers?

I don't need to be able to predict the future to make that statement, because the show has made it abundantly and repeatedly clear that Lena will never follow in her mother and brother's footsteps.

Which makes you wonder why they sometimes play the" She might be going evil" route. What is the point of teasing people with something nobody will expect to happen. At the very least you should never let the audience in on your plans.

Lena did one of those no-I-didn't-actually-give-you-all-the-black-stuff looks that we're supposed to notice but the other characters aren't.

Because she is such a good person, always fighting on the side of righteousness, well... Supergirl is one of those people who seems to believe that the means justifies the ends.

Lena just needs to snitch on her, when she sees this alien get out of line, and Kara Zor-El will be deported.
