A new news article has been published at TrekToday:

New photos of the two new Trek figures from McFarlane Toys have been released. The seven inch scale Kirk and Picard figures...

Wow, the even replicated the vertical lines on Picard's uniform, which IIRC was a problem with the material used during the third season and not an intentional look for the uniform. Although, several novel covers did draw the characters with those lines as did the comic books.

Nice to see they know their characters. Note the caption on this.

Not to be overly critical, or anything, but what's with "Captain James T. Kirk's" eyes? Looks strange, to me ...

The figures don't look elegant with the exposed joints. I used to have TOS figures where the uniforms, shirt and pants, were actually fabric that were separate from the figurines. Unless you removed the uniform, you couldn't see the joints except maybe the one where the hands met the forearms.

I collected some of the playmates stuff rowing up as a kid.Tthen I got the initial figures/ships/roleplay stuff that AA came out, which eventually became DST. Personally, I thought AA/DST did a great job with their figures. Although I am bummed we never got complete DS9/Voyager crews, I have to admit their attention to detail and accessories was great.

Macfarlane Toys seems to be on track/par with DST, but I think they would be better serviced trying to deliver something that we haven't seen on the market yet. Maybe release the figures with some kind of build-a-thing option, like say a tricorder, communicator, or a phaser. Buy all the figures, build a TNG tricorder prop. DC was able to do this with their BvS line where you could build the grapple gun.

I would be all over the Picard figure if it was similar to the Enterprise Archer/Reed/Mayweather/T'Pol Bridge line that was released back in 2002/2003, and it came with a part to build the ENT-D bridge.

But they would have to, you know, actually finish the line of course :D

I refuse to buy any Trek action figures until somebody starts making them in 4.5" scale, so they can go with the dozens of figures I still have from the 1990s.

Why don't "they" just stop making and trying to sell this shite? When -- OK? -- WHEN will STAR TREK merchandise cater to anything else but the kitsch market? How about some upscale items, for a refreshing change of pace? And I'm not talking about that lizard spit they cork & bottle as STAR TREK wine!

The Mego figures, no doubt. I have Kirk and Spock sitting to my right in my cubicle right now! They were reissued a few years ago. But they're very toy-like, more like cartoons of the actors than portraits.

I knew McFarlane would do a good job with these figures, but I'm totally taking a pass on all of them. Having grown up in the '80s with Star Wars and G.I. Joe figures, I'm more into 3.75-inch scale figures.

One of the better Shatner likenesses, but Picard’s eyes look weird

I don't remember which toy company made those figures. I wish that I still had them. I remember we used to swap the uniforms, putting Klingon uniforms on Kirk and Spock and Star Fleet uniforms on the Klingons.
