Then perhaps we should stop mocking Star Trek uniformsOf course. Outfits from another era often look silly or weird to us. It is only natural.

Yep---when I served we were constantly phasing in or out of something thanks to the "uniform board" which we all assumed had to change shit every 24 months or so to prove that a "uniform board" was needed.........we hated them.Several people have pointed to real life examples of testbed uniforms, and the British military have used different uniforms for different branches since forever. Despite the name, uniforms are often not uniform.

I think it was a joke. Not a complaint.Well, that's just a silly complaint. They're both based on the original uniforms, of course they're going to look similar!

No, seriously, I see why it gets a bad wrap, but it made some sense to me as a kind of generic body covering suitable for a future in which people were not ashamed of their bodies in the slightest. It could have been much more utilitarian while still being all that though. Did it even have pockets, or space-velcro for attaching things? I don't recall, but I don't think so.
Anybody have a screencap of those? Maybe in engineering somewhere? I'll keep an eye out next time I rewatch.
Waits for someone to kick off at the captain's non canon rank braid....
