Would a Reunion Be Out of The Question?

If they had gone with Fuller's anthology idea, I think you could get a great season out of Riker and Troi on the Titan, and maybe one or two other TNGers come through for guest spots.

It's hard to picture a way to pull them all back together that would be satisfying and not feel like a copy of "All Good Things". Data being dead is obviously a big complication, and I could not be less interested in seeing more of B4.

This. TNG got several movies and All Good Things projects even farther into the future.

The character arcs are all pretty much spent and the only reason to go back is purely for fanservice.

I would be interested in a TNG reunion which will never happen:

The movies should be forgotten and there's no Ent-E, but ENTERPRISE-D, because it was almost a character in the series, a place where things happened. After D was lost, TNG was gone for good, IMHO.

So, reunion after 'All Good Things...' without the movies would be OK... not a reunion with that spaceturkey Ent-E and abortion of a movie 'Nemesis'.

I just don't like the TNG movies, sorry.
But that's just me... or is it?

The TNG movies have not dated for me very well at all. "Generations" fares the best of the bunch despite being pretty fairly weak, and I understand why "cerebral Star Trek" doesn't make for good movies. But TNG was cerebral from the get-go and feels far truer to the original "The Cage" pilot from 1964 in ways. And "Generations" is the most cerebral of the bunch... and continuity-heavy, which also diminishes said continuity in the process.

"First Contact" is easily the best directed film but the script wasn't all that great, too fanwanky, and as much as I actually do like the Queen and how Alice Kriege (and later Suzanne Thompson) portrayed the character, she's as much anti-Borg and anti-continuity as it gets. Even "Scorpion" (VOY) kept true to Borg continuity but then they brought in another Queen, and not confirming if she's the same queen or if she's another or how many queens exist.

"Insurrection" falls apart under any scrutiny, though it's always of note to see Anthony Zerbe play a role in which his head explodes - see "Licence to Kill" (1989) where he has a character playing the same fate.

"Nemesis" was just a poorly contrived joke from the start with more plot holes, continuity, and logic problems than the previous three movies put together. They didn't even try and hoped the audience wouldn't notice in favor of flashy effects - but, as with "First Contact", effects alone don't make a movie great. And I'll admit the ramming scene, while scientifically questionable in a show that once had scientific advisors using real science to make the show stand out better where dramatically possible (see "Deja Q" for more on an example where they deviated), actually did look cool - but I've not watched the movie since 2002 and if I did I'd just fast forward to see everything go all magical splodey and then I'd pop season 6 back in and season 6 was largely (well, that's a topic in its own right, LOL).

IMHO, the Ent-E is largely a gorgeous ship design despite the engineering hull having an unused rear section (looks rather pointlessly like the 1701-A's shuttle bay), but the "D" and the "All Good Things"' future-version of it - are more iconic. And "Generations" showed how awesome the "D" looked on the big screen too. Imagine how stellar the ATG version of the "D" would look on the big screen, no pun intended...

Oooo, maybe an animated series? I know some of us cringe at the thought, but just look at how far advanced animation is now. It's unfortunate that they don't exploit that medium

I've been saying this about the TOS cast for years, to get this done before its too late. The Adam West 60s Batman animated movies are a case in point for that idea. I'd love a Harrison Ford Indy Animated series to finish his adventures in the same vein. The Ghostbusters and Back to the Future games set in the original continuities are fantastic.

A TNG animated series would be great if they could get the cast back together. It would have to have the original voices though. I wonder if it's ever been seriously considered?

If Discovery is successful in bringing in subs for CBS AA, maybe that would be a good home for a TNG Animated Series?

You know, I never really got that complaint. The borg queen isn't so much an entity controlling the collective, she's just a personification of it, as Alice Kriege directly states on screen: she's not the leader of the borg, she is the borg.
An interface, if you will (as was Locutus).
I don't think there are "multiple queens", nor that there is one in particular: queens are just made from regular drones whenever the need arises.

It's not really consistent with BoBW though - they state that "Your archane culture is authority-driven" and that a unique spokesman is needed to prepare humanity for assimilation. But according to First Contact, not only was there already an individual already, she was in fact present in the events of BoBW.

It's not a major problem, but it did fundamentally change the way the Borg would be perceived and used going forward. Especially in later Voyager episodes where the Queen felt like a supervillain commanding the mindless drones rather than the personification of a greater collective consciousness.

I think it would feel too anticlimactic, especially with Data being gone (and me not even really wanting to think about B4, stupid concept). There's not a lot to be gained by either trying to catch up with what the characters having been doing in all the time since or trying to give them a new last mission (especially since we already have seen possible futures for them).

I don't really see CBS going back to TNG in any form ever again.
Oh I’m not predicting it nor do I think it will happen. But, how many subscribers to their pay service are they about to lose in a month when ST-DSC goes into their end of season break? You’d think if enough people are watching DSC they might try to find something to keep them around when that show is in between seasons.

This is like when Doctor Who came back and fans were speculating about a Paul McGann animated series when the main show was off-air. Never going to happen.

It's a good point about CBSAA subscriptions though - there seemed to be quite a few anecdotal examples of people cancelling their sub in December. Any additional shows will likely be spin-offs from Discovery though.

Uh..I always thought that the TOS movie sets where actually Phase-II sets (at least most parts) which then just kept beeing redressed / altered for TNG and VOY?
They were originally designed for Phase II but were heavily changed when it became a film production. I think you're right that the basic layout of Stage 9 (corridors, transporter, engineering, sickbay, crew quarters) were basically unchanged from 1977 until Voyager's sets were struck in 2001.

I think the major difficulty in a reunion would be the age of actors : if I remember well, Troi's supposed to live longer than humans (so she would look younger), I dunno about Worf...and of course : Data. I mean, from what I understood, he's been downloaded in B-4, but that would be rather ridiculous and out of character to have a 70-years-old looking B-4...That'd be the same problem with a possible return of Data in a future movie or series. IMHO, performance capture with CG edition (like what was made for Leia in the last SW movie) would be the ultimate way to go if any Soong-type android should come back on TV/theaters. I honestly can't imagine any new live actor portraying Data/Lore/B-4, that'd feel so weird !

Only Data would be an issue, obviously the rest of the crew would age normally. Worf will be covered in makeup anyway, and Troi is half human anyway.

Even with Data you could throw in a line about an ageing subroutine - which Juliana Tainer obviously had. Or use CG to de-age Brent.

The gynoid Juliana was built differently to make her age and die. I don't think such a major technical change would be possible on Data/Lore/B-4 ; especially when Noonien Soong isn't alive anymore to make the changes himself. I'm not done with the TNG books yet, but I didn't get the impression so far than any other cyberneticist would be able to reproduce what Noonien Soong achieved, so making Data age would be totally non-canon and illogical :/

If you put it on screen, it's canon.

The novels don't really matter. If you started a TNG reunion with a line about Data's ageing subroutine, it's canon.

The alternative is that Data's consciousness was downloaded instead into a holographic body with a mobile emitter, allowing him to change his appearance at will.

@Tomalak : just because something is put on screen doesn't make it canon if it's totally illogical, stupid and out of character. And just throwing a line about Data aging without his body being greatly modified is completely illogical. But I guess that's an endless debate...
