News FOX selling out to Disney?

I could see them holding off on adding the X-men for a till phase 5 or 6, to give some distance from the current movies.

I expect to see a new FF comic book launch very soon, I bet they have had the story all planned out for a while so they are ready to go when they get control of the movies back.
I think there have already been some very early hints in the comics that the return of the FF might be coming soon. I have to wonder now if the people at Marvel knew that the Disney/Fox issues were about to be resolved.

I do agree that Disney buying Fox's stuff does give them scary amount of Hollywood. I was to bothered by Lucasfilm and Marvel since they are realtively small studios who only really do one or two things each, Fox takes things up to a whole other level though. When should all of the anti-monopoly laws kick in and stop them? I'm thinking they've to be getting at least a little close to that line now.

For what it's worth, the reports have been suggesting that Fox and/or Disney would have to divest some of their holdings to keep the merged company from being too huge. So maybe it'd be more of a reshuffling of assets to different owners. For instance, Disney may not get the FOX Network (since they already have ABC, monopoly much?) and it could be bought by someone else.

Still, even with that moderation, I do wish Disney would just stop trying to take over the world. If a mouse is going to take over the world, I at least want him to talk like Orson Welles and have a sidekick who's never pondering what he's pondering.

Seriously. Do people not get that this kind of consolidation is really, really bad? A monopoly of almost all blockbuster films is pretty much the antithesis of how the blockbuster movement started in the '70s. It's absolutely terrible. And the Disney machine stifles creativity. This is ... intellectual property accelerationism. James Mangold, for example, has already said he's glad he made Logan when he did, because there's no way Disney would have gone for it.

And yet all people can think about is "CAN WE GET THE OG STAR WARS NOW?" (Kathleen Kennedy already said no) and "OMG NOW THE X-MEN CAN BE IN THE MCU" (barf).

Mangold can say what he wants, but FOX never would've have the balls to make Guardians of the Galaxy or even any team up movies like Marvel Studios have. So it evens out.

Yeah, not having The Avengers, Age of Ultron or Civil War would be such losses in the pantheon.

They would, actually. Moreso than Deadpool or Logan.

Deadpool I'll give you because that movie really doesn't hold up on multiple watches (though my wife disagrees), but ... yeah, no. The Avengers doesn't have a single interesting shot in it, Age of Ultron is an incoherent mess that has Black Widow comparing herself to the Hulk because she's sterile, and Civil War has characters acting like fucking morons in order to set up the big titular battle. Blegh. Slogs, all of them.

I don't want to see action figures smashed together. Tell me a story.

Debatable.

Age of Ultron is an incoherent mess that has Black Widow comparing herself to the Hulk because she's

Been brainwashed and raised to kill by the Red Room, that was the point she was trying to make. I dunno why everyone thinks it's due to the sterility.

and Civil War has characters acting like fucking morons in order to set up the big titular battle.

It's called flawed characters and internal conflict.

They have, and they're better than X-Men telling the same one story over and over again for 17 years.

Less Marvel movies but done better is good. At this point I have no problems with the X-Men movies basically stopping. FOX sucks making X-Mem movies outside of Deadpool at this point. Give the X-Men either a decade away from film or have them be introduced as side characters in the MCU and then maybe giving a main X-Men team a film every few years would definitely increase the quality of the movies even if it decreases the quantity.

Sometimes monopolies are bad. But for film companies the benefits of Disney taking over FOX are worth it as a viewer. Even if, say, Deadpool 2 ends up being the last DP because Disney doesn't want R-rated superhero movies, i'd be fine with that if it means FOX doesn't get to keep screwing up the X-Men in general.

They're making The New Mutants and Gambit. They've even announced a Multiple Man film.

The Multiple Man one (hope that gets canceled) is just James Franco doing his usual R rated Sexfest except he's co-opting Madrox's name and powers to do it instead of an original character.

New Mutants? Too little too late. And Gambit sounds like a trainwreck too.

Looking at that list, does it even really matter THAT much? Is Disney going to jump on any of those television shows any time soon, or even Home Alone and Die Hard?

If you haven't been paying attention to the company since, oh, the late '80s, Disney will exploit literally anything that it thinks will make money. A Home Alone Universe where Kevin and Bender are helping Itchy and Scratchy repel Xenomorphs and Predators in the X-Mansion on Pandora while Donald Duck tries to Die Hard his way in? If they think it'll generate cash, they'll fucking do it.
