Given his knack for tone and genre, I would be willing to give him a chance. Although I'd prefer it to be written by him, or by the Beyond team... Just not any of JJs previous writing buddies from 09 or ID.

I enjoy Tarantino's movies... but... No. Absolutely not. The only thing I hope to get out of this are some articles a few years from now that outline how insane whatever he proposed probably was.

Tarantino is a Trek fan so I hope he would do the franchise justice with his take, though I'd prefer it if there was no Abrams intervention or meddling whatsoever, hell give QT a chance to "reboot" Trek himself it'd be far better than anything else we've gotten over the last eight years!

See, I like the Kelvin movies and Discovery, though I have my qualms with them. But Tarantino's style of writing and film making is so far outside Trek, I feel like it would clash.

That's not to say I'm opposed to film makers adding some of their style to Trek. People complain about the camera work in Discovery and the Kelvin movies, but considering how stylistically bland (from a cinematographic viewpoint) the rest of the franchise is, having any real style beyond a fixed viewpoint/steady-cam probably seems wrong to a lot of people.

But Tarantino's style of film making pretty much beats you over the head and demands you to look at it.

I like Tarantino films, but wasn't too sure until I read the article at Screenrant.

Now I am onboard for this.
Yesterday's Enterprise would be a great fit.
I hope he doesn't mess with City on the Edge of Forever

I actually think a Tarantino Trek movie would probably surprise everyone expecting it to be like his original movies.

I was thinking you were right, but the agreed upon R rating might change that...

I'm super excited for this. Tarantino? Awesome! Mark "The Revenant" Smith as screenwriter? Even better! R rating? BRING IT! Tired of the kiddie shit. It's time for the franchise to grow up. DISCO has taken the weekly series down that path, let this take the feature films there too. Cannot happen soon enough.

If Quentin Tarantino directed Star Trek... it might go... a little something... like this...

“You know what they call a Big Mac on Quo’nos?”
“What do they call a Big Mac on Quo’nos?”
    “Le Big Gagh.”

“Look at the Big Brains on Captain Boday! You're a smart Gallamite! That's right, the Metron system."

    “What... do... Breen... look... like?”
    “What?!”
    “What planet are you from?”
    “What?”
“What ain’t a planet I ever heard of, do universal translators work on What?”

“You ever watch Star Trek, Brett? Well there’s this episode I got memorised, it sorta fits the occasion. Season 2, episode 17.”

I like some of his movies, but Tarantino's style would be absolutely terrible for Trek. But, I really, really doubt this will ever end up getting made.

I thought this was just a rumor that had been floating around for a while...so is it true and has been confirmed? If so, I do like the idea. He can tell a good story!

I can't see this actually happening. I love Tarantino's stuff but this is just so.....at odds with what he does. I'm trying to wrap my brain around it. I guess it would depend on how much writing input he has. He could probably direct it "straight" based on someone else's script. I know he's done at least one TV episode and he wanted to do a "straight" old-fashioned version of Casino Royale before the Bond franchise was rebooted with Daniel Craig. So in that case, I imagine his Star Trek would be a complete re-imagining of TOS (yet again).

If it actually gets made, I'll (1) be VERY surprised, and (2) see it immediately.

    What agreed upon R rating?

EDIT: Never mind, I saw the Deadline article. I'm now skeptical of this movie getting made if that's true. Making sure that less people see Trek seems like a silly idea to me.

Shatner and Stewart both want to work on Tarantino’s ST film

To clarify, I’m not suggesting that either one of them are in the script
(although knowing QT’s fondness for both I wouldn’t be surprised) but within the last 24 hours they have both publicly mentioned that they would like to be involved in Tarantino’s Star Trek film to one degree or another.

    http://ew.com/movies/2017/12/08/star-trek-patrick-stewart-picard-quentin-tarantino/

“But one of my dreams is to work with Tarantino. I admire his work so much and to be in a Tarantino film would give me so much satisfaction. So, if he is going to direct something to do with Star Trek and there was the possibility of dear old Jean-Luc showing up again and doing that for Mr. Tarantino, I would embrace it.”

Shatner (from his Twitter account) was a bit more tongue and cheek, but he has publicly lobbied for a role in the new ST films before

"Is Tarantino is looking for someone to do a nude scene???”

When Tarantino fist spoke of a Star Trek film a few months back the two scenarios he threw out both involved time travel. With that in mind, don’t be shocked if you see Kirk and Picard one last time.

They may lose some numbers in the younger market but they may also gain more targeting a previously untapped, more adult, demographic. Personally, I think it's a risk worth making.

The last film that had both Kirk and Picard in it wasn't great, it was bad, let's see if Tarantino can do better. :)

The real question is does Starfleet allow officers to say 'fuck'?
