Black Lightning’ DC Superhero Series In Works From Greg Berlanti, Mara Brock Akil & Salim Akil

Is this, like, a thing with you? Do you just find people that you don't like on-line and make moronic, snarky comments to them? If so, that is... rather pathetic. I mean, I've never met Christopher personally, but I can still guarantee you that he doesn't miss a minute of sleep over your nonsense, and the only person who comes off looking like an idiot is you.

In fact, just about everything about "TalonCard" stinks. A three-year old account that is only a "Lieutenant Commander" that seems to only exist to troll Christopher? Smells like a troll account to me.

Wait a minute...

Wait a minute!

Are you secretly OmahaStar? I mean, for whatever reason, Christopher has attracted some world-class trolls over the years, but OmahaStar was amongst the trolliest of them all, and this seems right up his alley.

Except Christopher, in the very next post after yours, then provided "proof" of how he can rub people the wrong way.

Also, you need a whole lot more posts than his recent Christopher rants to become Lt. COmmander. I think TalonCard just had a really bad day, and Christopher just happened to be in a number of threads he follows (as he is in my watched thread list).

With Tony Isabella, ...Wikipedia says that Black Lightning was co-created by Trevor Von Eeden (an African American.. with some obviously unlikely namesakes) . I would hope Trevor has some input on Black Lightning's real name
In my mind I had conflated Tony Isabella with Tony Siragusa and while I knew it was wrong it sure made for an amusing image picturing Siragusa coming up with Black Lightning. :)

^No idea who Tony Siragusa is.
Not too surprised. :) Former football player, possible mob enforcer or personification of a meatball, defender of your manhood (see below) and very unlikely to have anything to do with Black Lightning. ;)

Probably right, but just in case, this old-time poster is going to delurk to say that I actively watch out for Christopher posts in the threads I read, for his consistent intelligence and erudition. His comments are a pleasure to read -- informative, perceptive, and well-written. Keep doing what you do, sir, it's appreciated.

Seconded. Hopefully he won't let the occasional disgruntled poster deter him from posting.

And? There are people on these boards who rub me the wrong way. For these people I utilize the "ignore" function. What I don't do is go on a petty rampage throughout the forum throwing snarky comments that I think are clever at the person I don't like.

I get notifications for the threads I follow, and it's quite annoying to get multiple notifications and have them almost all be about one poster's silly vendetta. Especially if I don't have access to Wi-Fi and am using up my phone's data. (And apologies to all of the people who got notified about this post and used their data to read it. Irony's a bitch.)

Anyway, I know that this incident is over and done with, but I felt that I had to get that out.

All three presidents are unlikely namesakes for African-Americans.

Confirmation that both of BL's daughters will have superpowers -- not surprising, since they both do in the comics. Also, the actresses playing the daughters say they'd love an Arrowverse crossover, but I wouldn't read too much into that.

It looks like it has a different vibe to the other CW shows, a little slower, a little richer, I'm curious how it will play out.

I'm sure "richer" isn't quite the right word so don't jump on that too hard but it looks more composed (?) which probably isn't the right word either. I like how the shots track and the use of lighting and so on, Having an older lead is different as well, this kind of looks like if Joe was The Flash. Again, going just off the small snippets we've been given.

Some casting news:

http://www.cbr.com/black-lightning-james-remar-damon-gupton-series-regulars/

James Remar is playing BL's mentor figure, and interestingly, Gupton is playing Inspector Henderson. No doubt this is Bill Henderson, who was invented for the '40s Superman radio series and later used in the George Reeves TV series before eventually being added to the comics in the '70s, appearing in both Superman and Black Lightning (which was Metropolis-based). Henderson has previously been played by Mel Winkler in both Lois & Clark and Superman: The Animated Series, though he was later replaced in L&C by Richard Belzer. I hadn't been aware Henderson had been used in the BL comics, so it's rather a surprise to see him show up here.

EDIT: Okay, here's a panel summary:

http://www.cbr.com/black-lightning-season-1-sdcc-2017/

“This is going to come from an authentic black male voice,” Salim Akil said. “I love all of the other shows, and they have paved the way for this show, but I think this character will add something to the conversation… I also think we’re going to be giving something back to the American culture… what I expect by this time next year… what I love is the idea that I will be able to see… little black boys and little black girls have a choice. They can be Batman, or they can be Black Lightning. They gave be Supergirl, or they can be Thunder or Lightning.”

I hope so. I loved the fresh perspective Luke Cage offered, the celebration of African-American community's culture and history and the acknowledgment of its challenges. I hope this can do the same.

Oh, and I guess we have confirmation that the daughters will be going by Thunder and Lightning.

It's neat that they found an actor with genuine albinism to play the character instead of using makeup or just dropping that trait altogether. Although they do seem to have dropped the extreme bulk that befits Whale's name in the comics. Maybe just as well, since it'd make him seem a bit too much like the Kingpin.

I'm not crazy about establishing Whale as the murderer of BL's father, though. That's kind of a cliche. In the comics, I gather, it was Whale's murder of one of Pierce's students that prompted him to become Black Lightning originally. I would've been happy if they'd stuck with that, since it'd help establish how committed Pierce is to the well-being of his students. Not everything in fiction has to be about daddy issues.

The city is named Freeland now? Last I read it was going to be in Los Angeles. I can understand the benefits of a fictional city but that does not sound like a city name to me. EDIT I looked up that name and turns out there are a number of small towns named that... shows what I know ;)

The earliest reports said Los Angeles, but later reports said New Orleans, or possibly Atlanta, where it's filmed. Apparently the Freeland setting was first revealed back in August.

A fictional setting is probably preferable if the producers want to portray government corruption or police brutality without risking lawsuits. But it's tempting to speculate that a fictional city name might be a sign that the show will be set in the Arrowverse after all. Ditto for them scheduling it right after The Flash, which seems like kind of an odd mismatch -- judging from what we've seen, I'd expect it to be more like Arrow in tone.

I also would have expected this to air after Arrow. But now that Arrow is staying in a later time slot that is not an option. I wonder if Legends will air on Monday's after Supergirl?

They're using The Flash as the lead-in simply because it's the highest rated show on the network.

I figured it was something like that. But that could also be a reason to hope that the producers will want to tie BL into the Arrowverse.
