Did they say it last week? I listened but I did not hear it.

I've been a bit unsure so far (particularly being a bit of a canon geek) but that really was an excellent episode. I'm really not sure where we are heading at all.

It was written on a padd that was hidden under some other stuff.

Except for all the times countries have done this in RL.

Yes. Imperialism happens in real life. So does murder.

In terms of screen time and story focus, I agree. SM-G reminds me a bit of Chloe Bennet's start on AoS. Ibvious that the producers wanted her to be one of the main focus's of the story, but not quite ready for that task. By the end of AoS' first season things had smoothed out for Chloe. I expect no less for SM-G.

As others have pointed out, saved the earth, architect of the Federation, blah blah, you know the drill.

I would suggest re-watching the first four episodes again and watch a little more closely this time.
I agree with Gonzo here. A character in the show mentioned that Burnham might have a grudge against the Klingons because of previous violent encounters with them, then someone here mentioned PTSD, and now 'Burnham had a mental breakdown'.

I think "Binary Stars" took great pains to show that she didn't have a breakdown and that she was right to want to fire on the Klingons first. Besides that, if it had really been a mental breakdown, that is a viable defense in a criminal court. There was no such defense offered because there was no mental breakdown.

Kind of a routine Trek episode to me. Captain gets captured, inexperienced XO leads rescue mission. The x-factor was the Tartigrade and spore drive. It was well executed, however, especially so if the kidnapping and subsequent escape turn out to have been orchestrated by the Klingons.

That was L'Rell on the Klingon prison ship? It looked like her but the head looked different. But I suppose that is the reason the camera lingered on her for so long after she'd been shot.

I am no expert on gay male romances, but even I could see the obvious chemistry between Culbreth and Stammets.

Oh yeah, the Klingon dragonfly fighters were really cute.

And this from someone shaking their head at the concept art a year ago.

On second viewing, I noticed something when the Admiral was informing Saru about the capture. She said the pilot was killed in the subsequent firefight... how did Starfleet get that Intel?

Okay, I'll give Archer credit for saving the Earth, but Starfleet captains have to save a planet in order to graduate the Academy. As for the architect of the Federation, he was an architect in the same way as George Constanza.

They might have left the shuttle floating in space with the dead pilot.

    WITCH!!!!

    WITCH!!!

Lorca clearly say that Klingon boys have more than one penis, which might not actually be just two penises... Insemination ganglia?

    (Ridiculous.)

So to be transformed from a three penis alien, into a one penis human being, either two of Voq's penises were cut off, maybe discarded, or his penes were tied together like a fa#got (dictionary specific correct use of the word. Bundle of sticks tied together) into a super penis, which would maybe be an actual "real life" chode.

He helped the Vulcans and Andorians make peace, and helped relations between the Andorians and Tellarite. He was instrumental in the alliance between Earth, Vulcan, Andoria, and Tellar against the Romulan Drone Ship, which help lay the groundwork for the Coalition of Planets, and then the Federation.

I should have written "an architect of the Federation", as MyRojo clarified.

Is the Matrix why the Sphere builders were not called the Architects?

    They're Civil Engineers, right?

The shuttle was in Federation space when it was attacked. The Klingons took Lorca and went back to Klingon space, and they left the pilot's dead body. This was discovered when Starfleet recovered the shuttle.

Discovery had to sneak into Klingon space to get Lorca back.

I thought I gave it an 8 but must have fat fingered it on my iPad because it's showing a 7. Too bad we can't change our vote. The main reason I didn't rate it higher was because the escape from the Klingon ship seemed just too easy. I expected a higher degree of difficulty, but maybe confirms the spy setup theory.

Also, since it's on CBS All Access, I wish they would increase each episode to an hour viewing time. Things just seem to get resolved a little too quickly in 42 minutes.

Then why did Saru order the ship to the shuttles location, given Starfleet combed through it and even said the warp trail went cold?
