Well, this one's somewhat better. There's more character development, and some interesting bits here and there. I like it that the big, intimidating guy who got Black Bolt put in his cell turned out to be more benevolent than we were led to expect. I liked the Hawai'an surfer guy telling Gorgon "I'll fight for your king in honor of mine." And it's an interesting choice to show Karnak having to cope with, effectively, a disability. Depriving Medusa of her power was obviously just a money-saving move, but Karnak's loss is more interesting because it's character-driven, the ultimate control freak having to cope with a loss of control for the first time in his adult life.

I still see little reason to sympathize with these characters' desire to reclaim their elite privilege, but I suppose the idea is that their current situation, having lost everything and needing to depend on the aid of common people, would teach them a more egalitarian point of view. But if this is to be more than an 8-episode series (and at this point I'm still okay with it not being more), it would probably work better if they remained in exile on Earth indefinitely.

The space agency lady still seems rather pointless to the story. I do wonder who the benefactor in the helicopter is and what he's all about. I think his name is Declan?

The main thing that still stands out as underwhelming is the Inhuman costume design. Except for Crystal and Medusa, everyone's wearing black and gray. It's very bland, and Attilan is similarly colorless. Where are all the wild, colorful Kirbyesque designs?

I've never been that huge a fan of Jack Kirby's work -- I think his art is kind of ugly and his ideas can be quite silly -- but sometimes I get a sense of just why so many people consider him so exceptional. I got that sense in the flashback scene where the Genetic Council leader was telling Black Bolt's parents about how he could destroy Attilan with his voice and so they could never hear their son speak again. There's something downright mythic about that, and quite poignant too. It's so much bigger, more grandiose a concept than just "Guy gets real strong and punches bad guys."

They subverted some expectations with Black Bolt and the prisoner, Karnak and the pot growers, soldiers that can't shoot...

Well this doesn't show any signs of getting better anytime soon. The writing is still hackneyed, the dialogue stilted, the acting wildly inconsistent and I don't know what show the composer was watching but they're either very easily impressed or under instruction to make things sound way more impressive than they really are. That bit where the lady made the weeds flop over for instance: from the music que you'd think Moses had just parted the Red Sea.

It's a shame because I honestly wouldn't mind all that if it was at least *fun*, but I almost fell asleep watching this latest one. I think I'll give this one more episode to improve, but then I'm out.

Weakest pilot I've seen this year, not that I expected much from the trailers.

Coming to this never having heard of the Inhumans before, I never did figure out why we're supposed to root for the royal family. Maximus overthrowing the caste system and dictatorship seems justified; when the coup started I was hoping for it to succeed, though not emotionally invested as Maximus was not a very sympathetic character either.

Then he cut Medusa's hair and threatened to kill Crystal's dog, so now I dislike him even more than I dislike everyone else.

At least Crystal didn't do anything to make me dislike her... in fact didn't do much of anything. I liked that she went to help her family, but it would have been more engaging if we'd seen her power and not just her ability to speak to Lockjaw. Who is the only character I like, but I didn't love him.

Well, episode # whatever was about as boring as the first. If it were longer than eight eps, I'd be dropping it already I think. Hopefully I'm proven wrong, but I can't help feel we'll be seeing our characters still all split up and looking for each other in four episodes time.

We did see several uses of her elemental powers, specifically her power to generate ice/frost -- first to incapacitate the guards when she fled, then to seal the door with ice while she tried to revive Lockjaw. And it looked like maybe she used a mild electric shock to wake up Lockjaw.

Tough to say whether this was an impovement or not. Maybe a slight one.

The scene between Maximus and Crystal was terrible. Perhaps they were supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation and let a child write that one.

I definitely liked Big Brah. Probably my new favorite character on the show. Very nice that we got to see Black Bolt bond with him. Black Bolt's character development definitely needed that.

Medusa is just a straight up villain now, right? She's robbing people's houses and now assaulting people at gunpoint. (Also, holy crap, that house!)

Karnak choosing to stay with the potgrowers was a bit of a surprise. Hopefully that storyline will contribute something to the show.

So Mortis is this super powerful Inhuman. Who also happens to be a whiny baby. And Plant-Moving Lady is so dumb that she had to be told her powers could help them get through the jungle faster.

Safe to assume that "handsome ATV rider" will help Crystal and Lockjaw next week?

I thought for sure that was just a ploy to escape.

For all its flaws it's not a bad way to pass an hour and at eight episodes it's not too heavy of a commitment. It kind of reminds me of those 90s syndicated adventure shows in style and those were similarly cheesy but fun. And they've gone in a couple of unexpected directions with the characters that helps to keep it lively. I'll see it to the end.

I'd say this was a tiny bit better than the first one. We did get a few nice character moments for pretty much everyone.
I liked that the Black Bolt's cellmate actually ended up being there to help him.
The stuff with Gorgon and the locals was pretty good.
Medusa trying to get money out of the ATM was kind of stupid. The people living on Earth don't know about Attilan, so it should be obvious to anybody who can think clearly that telling an ATM she's the Queen of Attilan isn't going to do anything.

I hadn't seen the last ep. Based on discussion here, I went ahead and watched it. Much better than the first two but I'm still not sure I'll watch another.

Yeah, Medusa was a villain this time. But Black Bolt seemed nicer (and I liked the interactions with his cellmate). Last week, Black Bolt was the one who seemed like a villain to me. I'm definitely rooting for Maximus' revolution to succeed, although ideally he'll die in the process.

I was surprised so many of his followers are Inhumans with significant powers. I initially figured his supporters would be people with no or very weak powers, with maybe an exception or two... but the fact that so many even of the elite reject the caste system just makes the royal family look even worse.

Pretty much the only reason I'm against Maximus (other than the murders) is he attacked Lockjaw. And where Lockjaw goes, so goes my loyalty.;)

That part didn't bother me. She's spent so many years being a pampered royal who had everything she wanted given to her instantly that she doesn't know how to adjust to anything else. Even if she should know better intellectually, it's hard to overcome a lifetime of reflexes. It's Mrs. Howell Syndrome, basically.

The part that bugs me is the inconsistency in what the Attilan Inhumans do or don't know about Earth. We know they have the ability to monitor broadcasts from Earth; we saw some of them doing so in the first couple of episodes. They clearly have some prior knowledge of modern society. They speak English, and last week Medusa was able to recognize the sound of cars over Black Bolt's comlink. She knew to call them cars and to call the tour bus a bus. And she apparently knows what US paper currency looks like on sight. I'd assume she's observed Earthly life from our TV broadcasts and such. So how come she's never come across the fact that ATMs are not voice-activated and require cards and bank accounts?

I'm finding it difficult to care about either side to be honest. I mean I know I'm supposed to dislike the usurping younger brother because they cast Ramsey Snow to play him, but on paper he has a legitimate point of view regarding their clearly stagnant society (of only 1400 people!?) So far the show hasn't given us any reason to root for the Royal Family besides "because they're the good guys and hey look, the giant doggy likes them!"
Better writers could really make something interesting out of that "because we're the good guys" trope all on it's own, but the people behind this have very narrow imaginations.

Attilan clearly needs new leadership and a new societal structure, but Maximus is clearly a liar and a cold-blooded murderer. Is he the one you want to lead your new society and build your new way of life?

How long have they been up there anyway? Five or ten thousand years since Hive's rebellion? If their population is really less than two thousand then they may have bigger problems than trundling on under an autocratic meritocracy. Does terrigenesis cause sterility? Can only the squibs breed? Are they under a population control system? If they're that concerned with humans finding them (when they should be more concerned with the Kree) then why haven't they migrated to Mars, Venus or the Jovian system where they'd be more able to spread out without being detected or bothered.

Indeed, detection by humans has only really been a concern in the last half a century or so. What was stopping them for the other nine thousand, nine hundred and fifty years?

Also, by this point *everybody* should be related to each other fairly closely, so how can there be a "Royal Family"?

more popular to who apart for little children that love all the mcu movies, you think this kids will like them in 10 years? when they are old enough to watch films such as Logan or X2.

I dont think anyone takes iron man and Cap seriously the same way they take xmen and spiderman, who were already far more popular and iconic long before they ever had movies. seriously if this is what you call popular i my as well go home especially when it is disney pulling the strings.popular folks don't have to keep telling us they are popular..that is the point of popularity.

X-Men is just the best created series marvel ever made and marvel should not have disrespected that because it would have always have been a blood bath that marvel was always bound to loose. the justification was earned and won

As for marvel's bankruptcy in the 90s, no it was not xmen, it was because all their other heroes failed to do their own parts to help marvel. had it not been for xmen, there will be no mcu today. not to mention the bizarre contradiction. if xmen led to their bankruptcy the same xmen could not have saved marvel in the first place...duh.

the one good thing that came out of that bankruptcy is that marvel sold the rights of xmen to a studio that had a better chance of making serious grown up comic films compared to the childish disney fluffy comedic mcu movies and at that point, X-Men became larger than life to be way too contained by marvel. so it worked out for the best.

Yes, yes I do. Mainly because Logan only got the reception it did from being Jackman's swan song and because they killed Logan in the end (predictable). X2 was just a rehash of X1.

Except for everyone, really. Spidey and X-Men had a little more exposure in the mainstream but now the other have too and the resulting popularity proves all they needed was a little faith.

Hell, Captain America has consistently been a more progressive book than anything the X-Men ever put out. X-Men is pretty conservative.

No, just the most over-exposed. Originally they were D-Listers who couldn't hold a book.

It was, the over-exposure and not focusing on other heroes (who did just as well as X-Men throughout the years) is what caused it. If they'd scaled back on the X-Men throughout the 80s and 90s and did more with their other heroes it wouldn't have happened. And it wasn't the X-Men movies that made the MCU possible, it was "out there" stuff like Blade.

Has no balls. The X-Men Film-makers still think it's the year 2000 and can't innovate.

Oh please everyone got exposure in marvel , spidey and xmen just got more loves because they were putting out marvel best stories. It has nothing to do with ‘’popularity’’. aka disney cinematic popularity that has gotten stale.

Please no one takes iron man and cap seriously because iron man is a comedian and his movies are the most childish of the mcu movies and no one cares about iron outside of movies. He is the least taken seriously mcu character after GOTG. Cap may be their most serious stuff but he is no logan, he is no DOFP and no he is no X2 because his movies are derivate, weekly acted and filled with weak villains.

The fact that you think Cap is more of a progressive book just shows why there is a fine line between xmen./marvel fans and mcu fans. Cap was recently a nazi right? For shock value? Because when you check cap history, he barley has a any classic storylines like xmen , spiderman or batman.

Well yes, xmen is the best series marvel created. Their stories, their mythology, their rogues gallery, their heroes, and their social commentary and ability to have had longevity with no movie or disney help unlike iron and cap makes the best marvel property. Want more proof? Xmen can exist in their own universe, they dont need marvel or the mcu, they have their own world that is rich and far compelling than the entire marvel world combined

and anytime x-men has even a good movie...those movies stump all over the mcu generic kids movies. marvel did try to scale back on xmen because they hate fox and the only people it hurt was marvel and their own mcu characters like your inhumans. you can also add their recent game capcom flop.

the point of inhumans was to try and replace xmen and it bombed in marvel face to the point of embarrassing and people called marvel out on it.

Yeah, it was xmen movies...moslty. and blade and spiderman that saved marvel. Back when marvel movies were for gown ups unlike now where marvel movies are kids to buy toys.

Logan was not about a swan song, it was about making a real movie with good story, real content and depth. it was not about jokes and explosions like your mcu movies.

Also the fact that you think X2 is a reharsh of X1 proves why mcu fans and marvel fans are at war, clearly you never read God Loves, Man Kills. Perhaps the single best marvel literacy book written still even reprinted occasionally that X2 was inspired by.

This is just funny, blaming xmen fans for inhumans floping...maybe inhumans should have been their own thing and not try and replace xmen.

its weird you bring up film makers, because you see many film makers like xmen movies and get inspiration from it, these same film makers hate MCU movies.

seriously the disaster that is inhumans beings and ends with marvel and disney. Please even the raimi movies are better than that disney channel inspired Spiderman Homecoming which is almost as bad as Inhumans.

Nope, the other characters frequently got shafted until recently. And that's what X-Men fans just can't stand.

    Except for everyone.

No, he just acts like a 3-Dimensional Human, which is more than can be said for most X-Men characters.

    You're right, he's better.

They're more original than anything in the X-Movies, the acting is superb and the villains are "weak" because they don't take the lazy way out by making the villains the stars of the movie.

Yeah, regular Marvel fan aren't as fanatical as X-Fans.

He has plenty, if you knew anything about his character and book.

No, just the most over-exposed. Even their "classic" stories like the Phoenix Saga aren't very good.

Are derivative, not that impressive and most X-Villains suck. The only one with any staying power is Magneto, and even he's pretty 1-D considering how cheap and lazy his origin is.

X-Men has always failed as a Social Allegory, the key is making sure no one thinks too hard otherwise they'll realize it. That's why it's important not to think hard about X-Men.

Uh, X-Men really took off due to FOX. So yeah, they had help from a big studio.

    So could any Marvel character.

    Which is rare.

    Never happened.

Inhumans hasn't worked because no one wanted to make the show, no one at the movies and no one at the TV Department. It was all forced by Ike Perlmutter. If they had wanted to do it and put in the proper effort, it would have blown Gifted away...especially seeing how derivative Gifted is.

They were always about that, and it was Spidey that helped more than any other because his movies weren't ashamed of themselves the way the X-Movies are.

It WAS a Swan Song movie, and it tried to make up for lacking a proper plot by just giving us gore and cursing. The lazy way out.

I did read it, wasn't impressed. The only reason people remember that story is because it was the first time the X-Men and Magneto teamed up and because it tried to be "mature" by using stuff like the N-Word. The plot was boring, Stryker was a silly villain, etc. X2 the movie owes little to it aside from Stryker, and even he was changed heavily because of what a lame villain he originally was.

X-Fans are notoriously toxic towards anything non-X-Related at Marvel.

Can you literally name any? Nolan only said he liked the X-Men movies because he wanted free publicity, if Iron Man had come out before Batman Begins he'd say he was inspired by MCU.

    No, Ike Perlmutter.

Nope, Homecoming blows away all the Raimi movies. Including SM2.

Dales has gone on another anti-Marvel rant, and it's as predictable and repetitive as an X-Men movie.
