Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Really? That is weird. Eaglemoss is as close as you can get to the source material - they're working directly with the people that built the original models! Oy vey!

Memory Alpha differentiates between canon and official, whereas Memory Beta covers everything that’s licensed. I like it that way.

Memory-Alpha is weird. They were going to change the Crossfield class page name to “Discovery-Type” because Eaglemoss isn’t considered a proper source.
memory-alpha is so weird. i used to edit pretty heavily over there but two things happened: there was a big debate about kelvin sulu not really being gay, apparently they believed it wasn’t canon because it wasn’t explicitly stated, and some argued sulu and ben were just good friends or potentially even siblings. once that finally got sorted, i battled pretty hard to change “alternate universe” to “kelvin timeline” once everybody behind the scenes started referring to it as such, to no avail. that one still sticks in my craw. it’s like banging your head against a wall over there sometimes. their presentation is also messy AF. who taught these people how to crop photos??

anyway...

i’m a little bummed we didn’t get to see prototypes for the beyond enterprise refit or the kelvin timeline shuttles set at NYCC.

that’s right, kelvin timeline.

Aye, no news coming from NYCC, right?

Btw, got my Aventines and a new Kyushu (New Orleans) today. The secondary hull of the K is separated, and so the model looks...not bad! I love how versatile both the ship and it’s model are. I have one where I can plug and unplug the three pods at will. The version without secondary hull reminds me of old conceptions of the Springfield class that excluded the secondary hull.
Incidentally, the Springfield-class USS Chekov is due next month.

i hated my kyushu so much i sold it on ebay. i thought the sculpt was great but the paint job was cartoonish at best. 4 years later they still haven’t seemed to settle on a color for their TNG-era federation ships: the enterprise-D is light gray, the honshu is duck egg blue, the kyushu is white...

I ran into the same issues with one of the NuBSG Wikis. I did up a complete set of rank devices used in the show - very comprehensive. Because the chart I did contained some conjectural ranks (which were later proven to be correct), the whole chart was rejected. I would have had to split them up as individual images, only allowing those which have been seen on-screen and associated with a rank designation in-dialog. Too much trouble. Wikis are a weird thing. Some are extremely stringent, almost to an obtuse degree and others seem to allow the most obviously false and/or unsubstantiated information, leading to Stephen Colbert coining the term "wikiality". Real head-scratcher if you ask me.

That's accurate to the studio models though. The Nebula CGI was much darker, the New Orleans was a kitbashed model kit sprayed light grey. There's no reason they need to be consistent, they look different on screen.

Looks like the Aventine charge is pending on my credit card. US mail doesn’t run today (Federal Holiday) so maybe it actually will ship tomorrow.

Are the Shuttlecraft issues included with your subscription (like the special issues) or do you have to purchase separately on their site? Thanks.

that's true of some of these, but they've definitely vacillated between how a ship appears on screen and how it appeared as a model.

my point about the kyushu. original studio model vs eaglemoss' take:

The latter, although you could order it through other means. I get mine through Forbidden Planet here in Dublin.

I was charged the day I pre-ordered it, every time I've pre-ordered something from Eaglemoss I've ben charged immediately.

Very nice, thanks for sharing! I'm still in awe of the marvelous work Ben is doing on these collections. We are so lucky to have someone like him helm this project and I'm sure had it been not for him and his expertise the collections wouldn't come as far as it does. I mean, wow, we are talking about 200 Star Trek models here. If you would have told me this would happen ten years ago I would have thought you were crazy. Yet here we are.

The Shenzhou and Discovery models look awesome in this video. Can't wait to hold them in my hands. Also, the XL Enterprise NCC-1701 looks also very nice in this. Still undecided whether to get it or not.

New Galactica stuff there too! A Mk 1 Viper, a Mk 2 and Nu Cylon Raider, although Ben did say they were only doing about a dozen BSG ships and not the whole Colonial Fleet :(. It looks like they're going to be relatively large so it's probably a good thing that there will be a limited run of them.

Wow, amazing!

Also in this vide: first mention of Warship Voyager. As Ben mentions the other announced concept ships, and Borgified Voyager, we can be sure that was not a slip of the tongue.

Stoked about Galactica! I reckon that by now, the ships and their boxes make up about a quarter of the sum total of my possessions.
