I think we just need to accept the fact that this is a full reboot.

Yes, the producers said that it takes place in the prime timeline, but I honestly think they said that to make us feel better. The proof is in the pudding. Look at what we saw in the first two episodes: the technology is way more advanced than what we saw in TOS, and all 25 houses of Klingons look exactly the same. There are no human-looking Klingons like there should be during this era.

The thing is, I don't mind that it's a reboot. I'm cool with that. In fact, I LOVE the show so far! But I think you must realize that it's a full reboot. Not a visual ret-con. A FULL ON reboot. Meaning that it doesn't take place in the prime timeline. It's just another timeline.

I know some fans didn't like being lied to about the fact the producers saying it takes place in the prime timeline, and I can totally understand that. However, I can overlook this, for now, since the show is, IMO, pretty cool. After the show is over, though, I will be sure to grab my torch and pitchfork and make them pay for lying!

Given that some already do, while others refuse, and one can only be responsible for one's own perceptions--does it even matter? (It could to someone working on the series--they have to follow the lead of the showrunners--but to viewers, kinda moot, no?)

It doesn't really matter, but I'm fine thinking of it as a reboot.

Like you said, I like it either way. So, if thinking of it as a reboot makes liking it even easier, so be it.

I treat it as a reboot. Just hard to match up styles and attitudes from two shows fifty years apart.

Though I still don't think the first two episodes were very good, regardless of universe.

I don't care if it's a reboot or not, they can reboot shit all day long if they like. Everything from Hollywood is either a reboot or copied from something else anyway. The last King Kong and Tarzan movies were reboots, the difference being they were damned entertaining. So far Discovery isn't.

I thought they were well done, but lacked any kind of soul. It didn't feel like Star Trek to me. Is it a reboot? i think the producers will insist it's not until it makes more financial sense to say it is.

Maybe this IS the prime timeline and all the others were not.

If I have a problem with show it's just that so far it is all about Burnham. That is what makes it feel not so much like Star Trek. But I'm going to keep an open mind.

Why except your fan theory? It is prime and no more a reboot than TMP and TNG was.

I don't think it's a full-on reboot, but it's definitely a visual reboot. Take away all the visual changes and DIS fits in pretty good with TOS, so it may be more of a case that the "prime timeline" will have visual discrepancies, but will still have continuity as far as major events go.

Was The Motion Picture a "full reboot"?

No, we don't need to accept that DSC is a reboot, because it's not.[/SIZE]

Size doesn't matter, it's HOW you reboot that's important.

I honestly don't care whether it is or isn't, I just want a good story with characters to whom I can relate.

Yeah i think it's not bad to look at it as a reboot, kinda sorta, probably maybe.

They will string us along like a prom date until the very end on that one.

Don't care, as long as the story is interesting and the characters dynamic.
