WB's Justice League 2017 movie pre-discussion thread

"Sorry, I didn't know you were deaf, I only meant to bully you for not speaking clearly." He did apologize and it seems everything's OK with those guys but I couldn't help but think there's kind of a nasty implication to the story.

Kiersey Clemons and Jessie Eisenburg won't be included in the latest cut of the movie. I thought Barry Allen was supposed to be the one to change the future ;)

Looks like Joss is cutting out all side exposition/future setup and focusing on the main plot.

It's better to save it for the uncut version that fans will probably appreciate more.

General audience members won't remember Iris name dropping or setting up future events.

Also lex probably dropped lots of foreshadowing that's not needed

Maybe he remembers how the least successful part of Age of Ultron was the Thor subplot meant to set up the Infinity War arc.

And eliminating Eisenberg's Luthor is a decision I applaud, regardless of the reason.

Someone saw a version of the movie featuring Whedon's changes. He was not impressed.

Wow, think you could possibly be an more vague there.
I'm not to worried about these characters getting cut. Some of these big movies can end up getting to complicated with to many side characters and side plots, so cutting back on all of the side characters in order to focus more on the core characters and their stories could be a good thing in the long run. Whedon has not disappointed me yet (I even like Age of Ultron) so I'm going to trust him to know what he's doing. Honestly, I'd trust him to know what's best for this kind of movie more than I would Snyder.

I've read that the Luthor scenes in the Justice League movie were in part meant to set up the Batman movie that Affleck was writing and directing. Since Matt Reeves is taking over the Batman movie it is going a different direction so the Luthor scenes are now irrelevant. i don't know how true any of that is though. There's a lot of garbage out there.

This movie is supposed to introduce us to Barry, cutting Iris from it seems kinda weird...

A lot of stuff in BvS was obviously meant to set up future movies, but Affleck wasn't signed to write and direct The Batman until 2015, well after BvS had completed filming.

It's meant to introduce him in his capacity as the Flash. It's generally not typical for the individual heroes' supporting casts to be players in Justice League stories, since the focus is on the heroes' interactions with each other. In the JL/JLU animated series, we only rarely saw Lois, Alfred, or any of the supporting players. The Avengers movies incorporated a number of the supporting players, but that's because they'd already been established in previous movies and didn't need to be introduced to the audience. And they didn't include all of them.

I think it makes a lot more sense to introduce Iris in a Flash solo movie where she can be a focus of attention than it does to give her some brief debut scene in a movie already cluttered with other characters.

Most of things we've seen so far suggested that the he was supposed to be introduced as a person rather than a powerset, and Iris should be important to that, just like his father is. Yeah, it's a movie about heroes coming together, but we have to see glimpses of their individual worlds as well and leaving Iris out of Barry's just seems wrong to me.

Every movie has to prioritize what to include and what to leave out, and sometimes things that might be nice to see in isolation just get in the way of the larger story being told. Too many movies these days are too indulgent, too determined to cram everything in whether it's strictly necessary or not. It's good to see a filmmaker exercising some editorial discipline for a change.

No dude. It's the end of all movies.
Strange, but true!

Good.

Someone, somewhere, saw something. Unimpressive indeed.

God, it's like encountering the Prequel Trilogy bashing crap. You show something challenging and ambiguous, and people act as if the world is falling apart. No wonder people seemed to prefer their entertainment more bland and conformist.
