Would a Reunion Be Out of The Question?

Somehow, some part of me thinks it could be pulled off, a one time, "everybody is acceptably old now" kind of thing. In a weird way, that's kind of how they finished the show a generation ago, showing them all old, but in that case it was a projected future outcome, that we now know wasn't destined to end up that way. So then maybe now we can see how it did end up?

I'm sure there would be a long line of fans (including me) who would watch it but the costs of recreating the sets and paying the actors would be prohibitive. No harm is wishing, though.

They wouldn't have to recreate the sets. Have them reassemble on the Titan or something.

Some of the cast is a little too old and Data is dead. And Picard has a neural degenerative disease, no? They could have some TV movie that takes place after Voy with young leads and TNG cast members easily. But an adventure focused on 60 to 80 year olds? No.

Not that 'The Search For Data' wouldn't be cool.

Now, if Discovery succeeds, and they got thrust into the future for any reason. Big opportunity there.

I'm sure there would be a long line of fans (including me) who would watch it but the costs of recreating the sets and paying the actors would be prohibitive. No harm is wishing, though.

The Discovery sets don't look too different to the Enterprise-E ones. I remember Trekkies being furious about re-used Next Gen sets on the last two TOS movies, but I'd be cool with it done here.

Don't think it's ever gonna happen, but it's cool to imagine.

Most of the TNG sets were reused TOS movie sets, it really isn't a big deal.

I don't want a reunion, TNG was great but it's over, not everything has to return.

You know, I'm a huge fan of THE RIGHT STUFF, especially of Chuck Yeager's character. There's a touching scene with he and his beautiful wife Glennis in this movie, where flyboy Yeager's feeling unappreciated and antiquated, because it's now NASA astronauts who are getting all the hype. It sums up my feelings on this TNG reunion idea, quite nicely:

Glennis Yeager:
I never could stand a Man who was one of those "remember-whens." Those bitter guys that just sit around thinking about old times. If I ever see that happen... I'm going right out the front door. And you'll never catch me.

Chuck Yeager:
You know, I'm a fearless man, but I'm scared to death of you.

Glennis Yeager:
Oh, no, you're not.
But you ought to be.

TNG wasn't about boring stories of Glory Days. It was those Glory Days. Don't disrespect them and embarrass the cast by trying to relive them. The STAR TREK franchise has given us plenty of stories and multiple series based in the 24th Century. We fans haven't missed out. We're blessed that Gene Roddenberry lit the match, when he created this masterpiece called The Next Generation. He captured lightning in a bottle a second time and entertained larger audiences than ever before with STAR TREK ... and TNG's still entertaining audiences, today. I love it and I hope that this classic series will continue to be preserved, just the way it is, for generations to come.

I want to go back and rediscover TNG all over again and I really wish I could! But that's just a fantasy that reminds me how joyful the series is and what it's always meant to me. It's a thing of beauty!

ENTERPRISE: These Are the Voyages... kind of demonstrated the inappropriateness of a TNG return, though, even by that point -- and we're talking, like ... a decade ago! Yes, I have always maintained that I enjoy TATV and I am not backtracking on that. I LOVE Riker and Troi ... and the fanwankery carried me over that Suspension of Disbelief, amongst other things, to get me to dig the show. However ...

I have ALWAYS amended that with the admission that Frakes and Sirtis had visibly aged out of their parts. I really felt bad for Marina, as she'd already gotten beefy. Frakes looked haggard, despite colouring his hair and beard. All of this made worse by the fact that their characters were meant to be as they were, years before. It didn't flatter either actor. By the same token, Jonathan and Marina had been guest starring in other STAR TREK series, all along, so it wasn't that unforgivable seeing them do so, again. But it was clear that the time for that kind of stuff was over. It was time to move on and reinvent themselves, some way. It's the only way to get their sparkle back ... living in the past doesn't do the trick.

I would be interested in a TNG reunion which will never happen:

The movies should be forgotten and there's no Ent-E, but ENTERPRISE-D, because it was almost a character in the series, a place where things happened. After D was lost, TNG was gone for good, IMHO.

So, reunion after 'All Good Things...' without the movies would be OK... not a reunion with that spaceturkey Ent-E and abortion of a movie 'Nemesis'.

I just don't like the TNG movies, sorry.
But that's just me... or is it?

To be honest, I got more out of the cast reunion on the Blu-ray than I would from an in-character sequel. I'm not sure what the story could be that would do justice to those characters.

The only possibility would be a future Trek series set after the TNG era, with the TNG guys as quest stars. I don't think it's very likely though. Maybe the mooted anthology series before Discovery solidified.

It's a shame Star Trek doesn't go in for audio dramas like Doctor Who. I could easily see a run of "season 8" stories if they could get the cast together and some decent scripts.

Well not only B4, but the fact that B4 now it all wrinkled and looks 70 years old.

I love Marina Sirtis, OK? Deanna Troi's character helped define TNG and where would we be today without the term ... "Imzadi"? And, of course, Marina was very sexy in the 80's and this went past no-one. But yeah ... come TATV, she was beefy and I'm not trying to make fun, or judge. It's just what existed ... her ass really got big! You try to be gentlemanly about such things, but when I'm with someone and she starts packing on the pounds in her complacency ... my interest level decreases, proportionately, until she spots me around town, with another woman. And you're right about her not being alone in that: Jonathan Frakes bloated out, just like The Shat did! And yet, they both made the effort to youthify themselves as much as they could, to serve up some fanboy wankery, one last time on STAR TREK and my hat's off to Frakes & Sirtis.
