That's not how trailers work. You're implying that one has to do with the other. It's like when they stitch two completely separate pieces of dialog together, said an hour apart, just for a 2m trailer.

So maybe she's being taken away, but the hull is blown away and there's NO DOOR where her containment field is. So, you're jumping to conclusions.

Well you wouldn't need one if three of your cell walls turned on and off...

I'm not saying it definitely is the brig, because I have no way to know what it is, I'm saying that's what I interpreted it as. Clearly there is also a hull beach, but that's one perfectly square containment field to be an emergency one. Unless there are predefined refuge areas, maybe?

All I'm saying is that after watching trailers for several decades, I try not to make assumptions from them.

Interesting that the Tricorder is actually using a smartphone with a looping screen animation, because that's exactly what I thought when I saw the prop. Kind of ingenious. What about the Captain's chair? Are those iPads in the armrests?

I do know how trailers work. I'm just objecting to the argument that there's “nothing in the trailer implying Burnham lands in a brig”. Because there actually is evidence in the trailer that she does.

But, that doesn't make her a Mary Sue. We don't have enough information to conclude that is my point.

Also, if she wasn't Spock's step-sister, would that mean you would like her?

    It doesn't have a toilet.
That confirms it's definitely the brig. :D

So this Comic Con we got more of the worst alien design/redesign in ST history, an extremely mediocre trailer and the reveal that Spock kind of has a secret adoptive sister.

I officially apologize for (almost) every bad thing I've said about Brannon & Braga. Sure, they were really bad at their job, they ruined a great premise with Voyager and then made what were previously the two worst seasons of a ST show with Enterprise Season 1 and 2, but I'd take that over what we've seen of Discovery so far.

When you're making Star Trek Enterprise and Star Trek V look competent by comparison, you've screwed up, and Discovery has done that and more.

I'm glad people have such reasonable opinions and don't go for extreme statements. Wait...

Honestly, I've given up on just about any fandom there is. Most are mostly screaming at everything that is bad in their respective fandom, and I'm effing done with it. Adults whining and complaining like some bunch of mewling children. Star Trek fans are the worst. 'That isn't canon.' 'That looks wrong.' 'That doesn't satisfy my fanboy right of gratification!!!' 'You are not giving me what I deserve as a life long fan!!'

Just shut the f*** up!!!! I really only check out the Trekbbs for two things: The TrekLit forum, and seeing if there is news on Discovery and the Kelvin timeline movies. Other than that, I'm done. This is bad, this was wrong, TPTB should have done this.....

Just.....no. No. Go home.Stay away. Fans are killing fandoms.

    I think...I think I love you.

I cannot agree more with this sentiment.

Yeah, that may look like a squashed Sontaran, but it still looks better then the things Discovery is calling "klingons".

All the trailers and the reveals of the design elements and the info they've given out, yes.

They've also made Star Trek 09 look less bad by comparison (and I hate ST09 about as much as I like ST Beyond, and I really like that movie). They have made the worst "Prime Timeline" thing ever. Worse then Any Enterprise episode, worse then the bad movies (even Insurrection, which I honestly might hate even more then stuff like A Night in Sickbay). So, yeah, when it comes to being shit they have surpassed any reasonably expectation of crap. They are the Masters of shitty Star Trek, mostly because they seem to have a bigger level of disdain for the source material then JJ Abrams did.

Maybe people need to take criticism better? If some people can say its all Rainbows and Ice Cream others are within their rights to have an opposite opinion and state it. People who don't want anything said that could possibly be negative are just as bad as people who hate everything.

I mean, this show does have good points. While her backstory is the worst of any canon Trek character, I do like who the lead is minus her idiotic connection to Sarek. I think she could be great if she was in a competent show. Its nice to seem them keep branching out with the protagonist of a Trek show. The designs of the Starfleet ships are also not terrible (although those are the only non-terrible designs). For some people, that isn't enough. I certainly don't think it is. Still, its new Trek so I'll be watching it. If the Star Trek reboot can win me over with Beyond, this might be able to not be complete garbage. Although the odds of that are probably comparable to the odds of me flapping my arms and flying, and there is nothing that can redeem the "Klingons" for me.

Some peoples obsession with typos and mistyping really confuse me. I have basically unlimited free time, and even I don't have time to get that obsessive.

I think you're exaggerating. Just look at how people have graded the trailer. So far, around 90% of the votes are A and B. (60% grade it an A).
So it would seem the vast majority of people are enthusiastic or at least not very negative.
