Years ago I ran across a technical document from the manufacturer of the mesh and it had a dimensioned drawing of it. The same for the black trim used in the transporter room and elsewhere. I have searched since for them, but to no avail. I would love to have those for my own 3D projects. Anyone else seen these?

Ahhh, I remember the first time I did MY hex fence. Not NEARLY as informed as this. (But it IS in Of Gods and Men.)

I just love the fact that, as a fandom, we pay attention to details even as small as this. It probably never would have even occurred to me to wonder how the mesh is put together, but thanks to this thread, I know a lot of things I never would have known otherwise.

It's been quite a learning experience. Years of doing this and I'm still learning new stuff about these sets every day.

Looks like I didn't do enough research on the show and just went with what I found on the sets of NV and Continues. Damn. I'll have to update my models.

I have been spending far longer on this grating than I originally thought (This will be my third night on the grating), but it's better to correct it now than after I've moved on to something else!

Okay! I've made the necessary canon corrections and I'm actually much more pleased with these results! This looks like how I originally imaged it in my brain before I started referencing the modern iterations.

Seeing your pictures, I guess STC got it wrong, or it varies.

This photo of the STC hex is not the correct hex mesh. This piece which was in the corridor had an extra tab which had to be bent. The hex mesh we had in the engine room is the correct stuff. I tried to post a photo but photobucket is wacked but I think you got it right!

I had no idea there was any more detail to the hex panels.

I was hoping someone would notice the welding! I was shaking my head at my own obsession with detail last night as I was sculpting those details in. My goal though is to make this build as detailed as possible so I never feel the need to go back and redo everything again!

I just realized that the other day, I was modeling a welded metal ladder as part of my actual job, and even it doesn't have this much detail! (Not supposed to model welds anyway, but that's just one of the differences between as-designed and as-manufactured.)

All right, guys! I need your help. Anyone have any better reference images of the "footstep" right below the Jefferies tube? I've got 3 screencaps I based my build on, but I'm wondering if anyone has any better images. It would appear that it is NOT symmetrical, as I've built it, but I hate modelling in the dark. Any ideas on what that box looks like on the left side?

Here's my current symmetrical build. It will remain this way until anyone can point me to better reference.
ALSO! It never occurred to me that the Jefferies Tube entrance is oval shaped, and not circular like the tube itself. Makes perfect sense now that I think about it, as cutting a circular tube at a 45 degree angle would, in fact, result in an oval.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that went through that particular mental block! It led to a very confused conversation on this very BBS a few years ago until I finally experienced the same epiphany

I knew the Jeffrie's tube was an oval. What I struggled with was recreating the exact face of it's outline. But to determine it's outline I needed the exact angle the tube intersected the wall so I could cut the panel face accordingly. To determine that I did a side on drawing of a 8 foot tall wall panel and made a profile of a index card of a 3 foot tube and overlaid it where the end mated with the wall panel. This is what I remember from my study on this before building the first study model. The panel face is 5 feet across. The tube is 3 feet across with 1 ft to each side on the panel face. The study on the tube angle based on a 2 foot elevation at the panel base and the top of the tube hitting the 7 foot elevation on the panel came to a 53 degree from horizontal angle on the Jeffrie's tube. This would give you the oval you are looking for. Here is the link to a post where I posted a pic of that incomplete model. The pic is the 16th one down in the post.

As far as the bottom step it is a box 1 ft high, 1 ft wide, and 9 inches deep. I had not done a study to dress it out on the greebles. I planned on doing that later.

I don't have an answer for you on the box, but if you go this board: http://discuss.fleetworkshop.org/ They have several people posting there that visit and work on the set reconstructions in New York and Georgia, and not too long ago they were building out the Jefferies tube, so they might have reference and expertise on those details.

Also, your model looks great. I was curious about the black plaque, however, as it is not present in the reference photos you posted. Is that accurate, or your own addition?

The nice thing is that this means you can do what you want AND make it look exactly as it did on screen.
