However practically, embroidered/printed insignia (TOS, TMP, ENT) make more sense. They can't catch on anything, fall off, be easily taken etc.
Haha very true!! Though the uniforms probably don't help there either. You could ditch that, though it might leave you a little exposed!The embroidered badges also harder to ditch if you're in a situation where being identified as Starfleet could be hazardous to your health.![]()
Well the Kelvin crew all have the 'Enterprise patch' as their logo, as do the crew of the Franklin which preceded the Kelvin, so it would seem the only aberration from this being Starfleet's logo is the collection of different patches seen in TOS. Other than that, it's been pretty consistently the emblem of Starfleet from some point shortly after the end of Enterprise.The canon violation here would be if the delta shield were used as the Starfleet logo. After all, it has not been used as such in TOS, TAS, the assorted flashbacks to the era, or the 2233 scenes of STXI. It's merely what the heroes wear on their chests.
