'White genocide in space': Racist "fans" seething at racial diversity in Discovery...

When someone uses the qualifier "racist" to label the speech of a group of individuals, chances are I am going to completely ignore whatever is being said by that (if justifiably) labeled group.

Between all of this racist commentary and entitled rants about "OMG! Its too futuristic so it's not Prime!" I have to ask...

Do we even deserve a new Star Trek series?

I'm half kidding but it seems like we can't keep to the ideals that Roddenberry tried to push about new ideas and inclusion. I get the futurism that Trek projects is important to an audience, but it's always been about social forward thinking... from today. Right now, we need the messages that Star Trek tells so well. But this complaining about diversity is just a step too far.

Meanwhile, on IMDB eleven of the 20 cast members listed for Discovery are white men.

Yeah. I mean, this show sofar has the most diverse cast of any Trek when it comes to the amount of non-caucasian non-male stars. However, it's still not as diverse as Star Trek could be. We're going in the right direction, but for fans to complain about something like this.... Especially considering what Star Trek is about.....

We need messages of a positive future for humanity. Star Trek may, or may not, be the right vehicle for that.

I say this as a White, Anglo, Straight Protestant Male. Take that for what it's worth.

I too fall in that camp. And I agree with you.

(Except I'm technically Catholic. Married a Methodist minister though! :p)

Unfortunately, many people have different views on what "a positive future for humanity" is. I'm sure there are quite a few folks who jerk it to the future shown in "The Handmaid's Tale".

First they came for the white guys playing crazy Starfleet admirals, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not an admiral.

Then they came for the white guys playing Tribble traders, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Tribble trader.

Then they came for the white guys playing Space Nazis, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Space Nazi.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me at my audition.

1.) How do we know that the two tweets come from Trek fans?
2.) The featured female captain was not in TNG, it was in Voyager
3.) The internet is home to many keyboard commandoes:People who love to talk trash on screen but wouldn't have the balls to say it in public. These are probably the type of slime who hangs around comment sections on various sites just to get a rise out of people.
4.) I don't give a crap about gender or skin color. If the show is good, I'll watch it. If it isn't, I'll turn off and tune out.
