The X-Files renewed for season 11

The X-Files will return for Season 11, Fox announced Thursday.
Even better, the episode order for the revival’s continuation is 10, four more than the six-episode Season 10.
Series creator Chris Carter will executive-produce the season, and stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson have signed on to return as Mulder and Scully, as well.

The “event series” — Fox’s words — will air during the 2017-2018 season. Production is slated to begin this summer.

yay. I hope there is no writer's strike coming up to derail this.

When they announced the return for the 10th season, I was fairly interested. The revival started well, the stand-alone episodes were acceptable (especially the Were-Monster), but the closure was terrible. I still don't understand why Carter didn't end the 9th season with that virus attack plot (as predicted by the movie) instead of the whole "final trial" thing. But he waited so long and he did it so vaguely that the truth is, I don't know if it's worth continuing the series...

Bones was better, quality wise (in my opinion).

There were three ok episodes, not by CC. The others I rather forget.

That said, I hope that they get some good talented writers and directors on board.

I never watched the cliffhanger because I wasn't sure if there would be an 11th season. However, I've read that it's so stupid that I might still skip it.

Even if there is a writers strike, it's not like this show was a full season that they would have wanted to premiere in September anyways. At worst, a strike would probably push it from another likely January debut to a different month in winter.

As a massive X-Files fan I say this with a heavy heart... I'll only watch this if Carter is replaced as showrunner. S10 clearly showed he has no handle on either the mythology, story structure, character, modern day politics or humour. Which is depressing as hell given how on-the-nail the show used to be on most of these (YMMV with the mytharc, naturally). But thats never gonna happen, so there we go. Hope those that do watch enjoy though!

Hugo - not even Glen Morgan could save that mess

I'm sure I will check out a new season even if I was underwhelmed with season 10. It just didn't feel.....right somehow. Maybe it's a case of you can't go home again

Wasn't a fan of season 10. I didn't even both to watch the last two episodes.

I was kind of meh on the last season, but I'm still willing to give the new season a shot. I'm hoping the might retcon some of the weird creative choices made last season.

I'm surprised at all the negative comments. I enjoyed season 10, and I didn't care much for the original series-- I only caught random episodes. I liked the feeling of a couple of older adventurers having to get back into the game, and I found both of the leads far more appealing than they were in their younger days. I'm kind of looking forward to more episodes.

I'm looking forward to more episodes, too. News of this new season has sent me over the moon with excitement. Can't wait for more details to be announced.

Hopefully, a ten-episode order means more experimentation in story-telling and at least one script by Darin Morgan, if not more. I'm not opposed to some of the old guard returning on the creative side (like either Morgan or Vince Gilligan), but I'd really like to see some new talent writing several episodes, at least. X-Files has been around long enough to have fans that've grown up watching the show and are now old enough to be professional writers or directors. I'd like to see the X-Files version of Ronald Moore emerge in this new season -- someone weened on the series and wants to develop & expand its universe in fresh ways.

My thinking is Season 11 will probably air in 2018, to capitalize on the series' 25th anniversary. :)

What are some things everyone would like to see? I can think of a few.
1 John Doggett. I felt he was a intresting character, and even though the show missed Mulder in it's final season it doesn't mean the Doggett character was bad.
2 I want them to do alien stuff but I would just like it to be a little more intresting than they did last season. I think they also need to use the shapeshifters and black oil in some manner.
3 A Darrin Morgan, comedy ep or two.
4 I want Skinner to shave his beard. It doesn't look right on him.
5 A monkey.

Didn't bother watching it and this won't make me come back. X Files is a product of it's time and that time has gone.

The big thing for me is to get rid of the whole "it was really the government, not aliens" thing from last season.
I'd want to see Doggett and Reyes back. I'll admit, I've only seen one or two episodes with them, but they are a big part of the show that deserve to be recognized. I wouldn't mind seeing another episode or two that dealt with actual mythological or pop culture creatures. My first thought would be something like Slender Man, but with some of the stuff surrounding it, I don't know if that would be the best idea.

If I recall correctly, Robert Patrick was offered the opportunity to return but sadly he turned it down.

And maybe we can get space monkeys?

Besides being busy with Scorpion, Robert Patrick said he likes to look ahead instead of revisiting past roles.

Hey, I just want another scene as trippy as that one with Mulder high on shrooms.
