    [IMG] BASEBALL IS BACK [IMG]

Also, Team USA finally won the WBC! [IMG]

Will the Cubs repeat? Has Tanaka's arm finally fallen off? Will Sandoval's annual Best Shape of His Life routine result in that shape becoming "spherical" by May? How many Mets pitchers are going to go down with arm injuries? How many dingers will the O's hit (and how many will they give up)? How many times will the Oakland Coliseum overflow with shit? What goofy-ass rules (which do nothing to affect the pace of the game) will Rob Manfred come up with next?

Who gives a shit, because baseball is back.

I moved down to Virginia last year and I really hated not being able to watch the Red Sox every day like I used to be able to. I'm trying to decide if the $88/year single team MLB.tv subscription is worth it. It probably is, I just hem and haw about this sort of stuff too much. I already regret missing out on their season opener when I had the day off from work. (1-0, woot!)

MLB.tv allows up to five concurrent connections on a single account. Find four interested friends and you just have to toss in like $23 each.

Mets sure threw a great Opening Day today. Nothing like a good old fashioned pitcher's duel.

And it didn't hurt that the Braves bullpen was, as Keith Hernandez so eloquently put it, "El Stinkowski".

Tanaka done got lit the fuck up yesterday, and Seth Lugo has a "slight" UCL tear.

Strange game between the Cubs & Cardinals. Stephen Piscotty gets hit three times by a baseball in the same inning.

Still, the Cubs pulled out a win. They can still go 161-1 ;)

Hell yeah, it's worth it!! (aside from the Red Sox thing) Thanks for making me aware of the single team thing. I could save some ducats there. Calling Direct TV in 3-2.....

Surprisingly poor showing by Tanaka... but on the brighter side, CC did very well last night. he has really reinvented himself as a "pitcher" now.

Girardi has already pissed me off.... first by batting Ells 6th vs Archer in the first game, then bringing in Betances and Chapman with a frelling 5 run lead...:brickwall:

Headly is on roids or something.... tearing it up - hitting to all fields... emulating Greg Nettles at 3rd...

The funniest moment of last night Yankees v Rays game was when Torreyes hit a home run with Judge on base.

All 5'5" of him almost caught Judge at home, then the "high five" was a pretty comical sight... he almost had to jump to reach Judge :D :D

Sanchez keeps hitting it on the button, but always to someone... "O" fer so far this year.

The first Schwar-bomb since 2015 was a 3 run moonshot that brought the Cubs from behind.
This was 2 batters after a pitch in the dirt got stuck to Molina's chest protector and Szczur got to first after the K.
    It was a weird series.

To Gwinnett. Pretty much expected to be left handed power bat off the bench.

I'm surprised the Blue Jays didn't take a flyer on him to give Morales an occasional break -- it's not like that team doesn't need bats in the worst way.

The Jays have nowhere on the bench to put him given they are carrying Barney and Goins for back-up infield, Smoak and Carrera to play 1B and LF when Pearce hasn't booted them out of the line-up and career minor leaguers like Ryan Tepera in the bullpen. It also doesn't help that Morales couldn't be a serviceable 1B to rotate people through the DH slot as needed.

Jays need to subtract before they add.

Pineda took a perfect game into the 7th inning today. Now that's a home opener!

(Kudos to Longoria for tipping his cap after getting that double. Class act. :techman: )

Matt Kemp onto the DL with a hamstring pull. Historically, this has been a bad injury for him and tends to linger throughout the season (he torques his hamstring because of his arthritic hips). Thankfully, the Braves have a ton of Major League-ready outfielders to step into that considerable void.

    Oh, wait.

Well - the Oakland A's are encouragingly mediocre. They might pull out 75+ wins this season, which would be a best case scenario.
At least the new ownership group is committed to staying in Oakland, and now that the Raiders and the Warriors are/will be gone, the city will be far more compliant and cooperative. Someday we might have a decent stadium to play in!

    Yup. Longoria is a beast.

Probably Big Mike's best outing ever. Sure wish he could find that kind of consistency/focus on a regular basis.

He did not. I'm sure that's on the "Big Mike is pitching today" checklist. :D

Hey, good effort by the rookie Jordan Montgomery in his 1st start. He got tagged for a 2-run homer in the first but didn't let it spook him and pitched pretty darn well the rest of the way. Another "big fella" (6'6"). 4 A pitches. Cool head. I'll agree with Cone.... "he's a keeper".

Now Gardner is beaten up. Quite the collision at first base... all because Weeks doesn't know how to play first base.:brickwall:

Ells is playing great... I'm just waiting for part of him to break...

Mr. Headley is still all gangbusters... so nice to see after last year's poor showing.

Judge fought off a high inside pitch over the center field fence... about 448 feet.... some SERIOUS power there... his pitch selection has improved dramatically.

Love watching these guys.... Bird should be back in the line-up tonight.

Most interesting use of Miami's home run sculpture.
