Which Star Trek captain would make the best US president?

Picard. But, er.......we do have a forum called General Trek Discussion, where this probably belongs.

Well, I can't actually vote in the US elections. But... although he's not necessarily my favourite of the Star Trek captains, Picard seems the most "presidential", and the one I would be the least concerned about having access to the nuclear arsenal. So I would hope that he would win.

Oh, wait... I hear that you had three million people vote illegally in the last election... I guess maybe I can vote after all! :D ;)

Kirk. By a mile. Picard would be ineligible as he wasn't born in the US.

That sounds like a terrifying idea.

Janeway would probably make a better president. Unless of course she starts a nuclear war whenever she hasn't had any coffee.

Well, at the time they were born, the United States of America don't exist anymore as an independent nation, none of them would be eligible. Except for that old fart Archer.

President John William Henry Harriman, former captain of the Enterprise-B (but only because he and his friends stole it from his Dad's garage for a joyride), installed by the people on Tuesday, and dead from acute indecisiveness and rapid onset Kirkblocking only 31-days into his first term. His greatest achievement was making his VP running mate Demora Sulu his successor as President, and for not speaking up in time to veto the extremely self-deprecating yet catchy campaign slogan "Douchecanoe and Sulu too."

But seriously, Picard. He's been presidential speechifying for years.

Sisko has the most experience as an administrator, both on the station and previously as an engineer. He's also used to incorporating the priorities of different cultures and organizations (Federation and Bajorans). His experience on DS9 forced him to engage scientific as well as traditional points of view. Both Kirk and Picard loathe the idea of flying a desk, whereas that was Sisko's thing.

I never got a handle on Archer's character and am not sure how to evaluate Janeway in the context of public administration. Wasn't her passion science?

I think Kirk would be the best. In todays world you cna just be a great leader but you also have to something of a entertainer and Kirk could do this. Also all the flings would also be excused by todays Americans. Plus Kirk has talked about GOD Before but hasn't really felt the need to get to Christy about it. Just enough from both sides to placate belivers and non-belivers.

yeah I'll go with Sisko. He was a dab hand at negotiating and understood that priorities for running a good community weren't always about the big things.

It's a toss up between Janeway and Picard for me.

Picard is an easy favorite, because I feel like he would have no fucking time for political games in D.C. He'd likely be very good at tuning it all out, and also as perhaps the most egalitarian of all the Captains, he wouldn't give two fucks about what some donors or corporate lobbyists want. He'd put country over party as well, which I think would be a nice refreshment.

Janeway on the other hand would seem like the most willing to reach out and work with her ideological opponents to get things done in a pragmatic fashion. Which is kind of a double edged sword, but does hold some value. She is also one of the more willing Captains to admit when she made a mistake, something I think Picard would be a bit uncomfortable doing.

Picard is the clear winner for me.

Followed by Janeway, Kirk, Sisko and finally Archer (with a gazelle as his running mate).

Actually, I'm going to tweak my answer slightly.

Janeway for POTUS
Archer for VP
Picard for SCOTUS Chief Justice
Sisko for Speaker of the House
Kirk for Senate Majority Leader
