First look at Klingons in 'Star Trek: Discovery'?

I'm all for making the alien races look more alien.
And it's also worth keeping in mind that we still don't know with absolutely certainty that these are even Klingons. All we know is that somebody who claims they were on the Discovery set, is saying these are Klingons.
There are way to many unknowns as this point for me to be able to get too upset about this.
Even if they are Klingons, that doesn't mean they're meant to be the same Klingons we saw in TOS, TNG, DS9, Voy, and Ent.

That humanoid origins explanation was stupid and sooner it is forgotten the better. The problem is not that these Klingons look more alien, the problem is that they look kinda silly and that they do not look feral enough. Certain feral barbaric flair has always been a defining trait of Klingons (granted, less in TOS but it was still there) and I just don't think these have that. These look like vampires, Klingons should look look more like werewolves.

Not when the Canonical explanation for why a significant number of alien species look humanoid is that the planets from which said species originate were "seeded" with human genomes.

That seeding, however, happened millions of years before "modern" Klingons were extant on Qo'nos. Evolution can do some rather interesting things in just the short span of thousands of years, let alone what it does over millions of years. Just because human-type genomes were seeded throughout the galaxy does not mean every species should look like a someone with a latex appliance on his/her face. Appearances and functionality are going to vary, thanks to environmental conditions.

I dunno why people are getting so emotive over this - like I'm yet to see this horrible backlash from rabid traditionalists that people are predicting. Actually the thread has been civil - the expressed opinions have been mild - and people are entitled to be pro or against something, according to their personal tastes. The preference toward a more subtle evolution compared to a drastic change is hardly a sign of excessive closed mindedness or conservativism; actually thats a legitimate facet of graphical design - producers increasingly attempt to incorporate the art history of a design into film, games and TV these days, as Hollywood has matured from it's long lack of respect for settings, into an industry that realizes the value of the depth and history of it's properties. Sometimes you might want to ignore prior history anyway (to plot a new direction), but to suggest that any traditionalism is a sign of dogma is a pretty extreme interpretation. Let's just wait and see how the show is anyway.

This a thousand times over.

I'm currently playing Resident Evil: Code Veronica on Playstation 3. The main character, Claire Redfield, appears more detailed and realistic here than she did in Resident Evil 2. IT IS BLASPHEMY!

Perhaps these Klingon's are from the dark side of a moon in orbit of Qo'noS

This is the only thing said that makes sense to me so far. That these new Draconians are the Klingon equivalent to the Romulan Remans. They are Praxis' Klings to Qo'nos' Klingons if you please.

That was as stupid an episode as the one about traveling above warp 5 damaging the fabric of space, or the one about traveling at warp 10 turning you into a salamander, and as worthy of being forgotten and ignored, regardless of its touchyfeeliness and feeble excuse for fertile interspecies mating. Sorry if that seems like I'm stating a fact rather than opinion, but you express some of your opinions as though they're factual, so what the heck.

Klingons, Andorians, and other Star Trek species get redesigned every few years. It happens. And it's never ever one of the things that actually matters about the shows it happens in.

Honestly people.....

What's with this 'it MUST be explained', or 'there better be a backstory about this'? FFS, we haven't even had confirmation these ARE Klingons. And even if they are, deal with it.

So what if they changed the looks of some aliens? That happened so effing often during Star Trek. Hell, even Quark's nose was different in the beginning of Deep Space Nine!! Did you all cry out about that as well? Did you NEED or DESERVE an explanation about that as well? You learned to live with the changes back then, you'll do the same here as well.

Besides, if you don't like the look of it, don't watch the show. Nobody's forcing you, you know??

This is the best reply to this thread, in my opinion.

And honestly, even if these are Klingons, why must they all look like every other Klingon that we've seen?

I'm sure if costs had allowed it, we would have seen far more variety in the Klingon look, but as we all know, Trek behind the scenes was all about reuse and cost-cutting where possible. Those Klingon costumes first scene in The Motion Picture, for instance, were used right up until the end.

I like it. They look more alien. Here's a random thought on the subject.

If Humans and Klingons can still mate and have babies, their offspring would look like TNG Klingons.

Sorry - it's stupid of them to re-re-reinvent the Klingons yet again...again...

Waste of time, waste of money. STD is done.

It's entirely relevant because we already have a defined design for the Klingons, making the notion of redesigning them both unnecessary and stupid, especially when said apparent redesign doesn't bear even the remotest resemblance to said previously defined design.
Irrelevant, because it's fiction. Things will change and evolve. Very little is set in stone. That's why the Klingons have been swarthy, mongol stand-ins for the Soviets who wear sparkly clothes and Samurai-Viking space bikers with cranial ridges who are obsessed with honor.

This isn't "changing and evolving" the Klingons; it's "reinventing the wheel" for no reason whatsoever.
