Conflict in Discovery

The Overlord

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
What kind of conflicts should there be on this show? Should there be interpersonal conflicts between the crew or not? Should the conflicts between the Klingons and the Federation (or any other rivals of the Federation) be a hot war or a cold war type conflict?

What, like shiv fights in the galley? :D.

I know you are making a joke here, but I think this is a question worth exploring. Roddenberry tried to make the TNG crew into the get along gang, where humanity has grown past interpersonal conflicts, which comes off as dangerous group think now. Enterprise made Archer have an irrational loathing of the Vulcans (and made the Vulcans into jerks), creating interpersonal conflicts that came off as petty bickering.

So there is a balance between these two extremes, that people can disagree without being disagreeable, there is a balance between group think and petty bickering.

Unless they wish to violate some cannons it's gotta be cold.

Fair enough, but I would like to see the occasional battle between the Discovery and another ship, not all the time, but sometimes.

Vulcans are assholes.

I don't want more conflict in Discovery than I'd see in an episode of Game Of Thrones.

I don't think we need that level of conflict among the Discovery crew, maybe the Klingons can have that level of conflict, I just think the Discovery crew should just occasionally disagree on things, rather then being the get along gang.

I really don't want to see any forced conflict between characters just for the sake of being faux edgy. That's just tiresome. Adult professional Starfleet officers should not act like children.

Adults disagree with each other all the time, they shouldn't act like bickering children, but no disagreements makes the crew seem like some group think cult. People with different personalities will have different ways of doing things and those different methodologies will conflict with each other, that is what makes characters interesting, having different personality types play off each other. I don't want to go back to early TNG when everyone was in the get along gang.

No conflict. Future humans have evolved beyond disagreements.

And evolved into cult like group think? That would be a pretty dull show and not a good picture for the future of the humanity, where everyone has embraced a herd mentality.
