We now have a blurb for the next entry in the Rise of the Federation saga by our very own Christopher L. Bennett, due out 29 August 2017! As can be seen below, the Section 31 plot thread looks to be colliding with the Sauria plot thread. I also presume that this novel's plot may be the plot driver for the also upcoming Section 31: Control.

The saga of the Star Trek: Enterprise TV series continues with this thrilling original novel!

The time has come to act. Following the destructive consequences of the Ware crisis, Admiral Jonathan Archer and Section 31 agent Trip Tucker both attempt to change their institutions to prevent further such tragedies. Archer pushes for a Starfleet directive of non-interference, but he faces opposition from allies within the fleet and unwelcome support from adversaries who wish to drive the Federation into complete isolationism. Meanwhile, Tucker plays a dangerous game against the corrupt leaders of Section 31, hoping to bring down their conspiracy once and for all. But is he willing to jeopardize Archer’s efforts—and perhaps the fate of an entire world—in order to win?

No, it isn't. Dave actually conceived and wrote his book well ahead of mine. I consulted him to make sure we didn't have any conflicts and weren't doing the same things twice, but as you'd expect of Dave and me, our takes go in very different directions.
 
Yay! This news I've been waiting for a long time about this new Enterprise book .The storyline wirh Section 31 is something I've been wanting to see addressed for along time in the Enterprise novels.:biggrin::bolian:

Yes! So excited for this. The RotF series has rocketed to the top of my "most anticipated" list since its inception. I was afraid that we might not get a fifth book this year what with CLBIII's Face of the Unknown (yay!) and the new DTI novella (double yay!) coming out as well. I'm particularly excited that we will be focusing on the Sauria conflict and the tumultuous birth of the non-interference directive and its equally tumultuous philosophical adoption by the Federation at large. I've really loved the political and philosophical nuance with which the struggle for the Prime Directive has been portrayed in the novels thus far. Plus, Maltuvis has been an intriguing figure since book 1, and the world building for Sauria is fantastic as well. Excited to see the slow bubbling of this storyline now erupt to a head along with the 22nd century Section 31 shenanigans. I was curious if connections might exist with Control as well, and even the revelations contained in the epilogue of Elusive Salvation, but it's understandable that all of these interactions with S31 are self-contained. Besides being set hundreds of years apart, S31 is a shadow organization. They're slippery. May think you've cut off their head in one era, but it'll sprout two more without setting off any alarms. I'm more curious about how Trip finally escapes their clutches, if he ever really does.

Well, technically, TFotU is the last book of the 2016 publication year, closing out the 50th anniversary. So it wouldn't affect the 2017 schedule.
 
I'm also very exited for this book, it is my favourite ST novel series. Keep up the good work!

I like the work and personal relationship Shran and Archer has developed over the years but I can't wait for their conflict on the topic of non-interference. (At least if I remember correctly about Shran's opinion on the matter :)). And I hope we don't lose Captain T'Pol just yet if Trip manages to leave Section 31 behind.
 
Love the series! And such a privilege to have access to the writer. Hail Mr Bennett! Ok a few questions. Is any aspect of TOS being fixed in your stories e.g why Starfleet seems dominated by humans and why no female captains in TOS? Or you ignoring those 1960's influenced aspects of the franchise?
 
The "no female captains" thing in TOS hasn't been part of Trek novels in ages; I mean, look at Hallie Gammon and Atish Khatami. That line in "Turnabout Intruder", "Your world of starship captains doesn't admit women", while originally intended to mean that women weren't allowed to be captains, is almost always reframed nowadays as Janice saying that Kirk's world of starship captains - his life, his personal obsession and devotion to his career - doesn't admit a long-term relationship with a woman. I don't think anyone that works on Trek on either screen or prose accepts or believes that women couldn't be captains in the TOS era, that's basically treated as an atavism.
 
And likewise, 23rd century novels have long been featuring aliens in Starfleet, even a few others on the Enterprise during the 5YM. Hell, even TAS did that.
 
Those were set in the 23rd century Rise of The Federation is set in the 22nd. The early teething years.

Well, we know there are female captains in the 22nd century, we had Captain Hernandez on the show, and so far the RotF novels have been showing us diverse alien crews on Starfleet ships, so presumably this will continue into the 23rd century.
 
Until the Federation meets delegates from the planet Trump who wants to join that has an abundance of dilithium crystals but its bargaining chip is no more female captains unless they are blonde and stem from Eastern Europe. The Federation, President Archer resigns in protest, takes his wife Danika and does the galactic lecture circuit talking about gazelles. ;)
 
^ I forgot about the gazelles. Why haven't we heard anything about them in RotF?
 
^Oh yes I recall, also thanks for pairing Danika with Archer, nice way to introduce the character, plus he deserves romance after all those years single.
