From the second to the tenth of the original books, the volume number was incorporated into the cover painting. II, III, and V weren't especially creative, but IV had a somewhat improbable spacecraft, VI had an alien hand painting in the Roman numeral, VII had what appear to be hot roof vents emphasizing the shape of a group of buildings forming the Roman numeral, and 8-10 all had exploding spacecraft, with what remained of their hull numbers giving the volume number, the last only giving it because it was upside down.
I don't see any of that in either piece (and thanks, "Defcon," I saw nothing at all between the bottom of the headline and the "click here to learn more" link).
Then again, if this is to be strictly an E-book release, then there's little point in expending much effort on cover art: it's not going to be attracting attention in a bookstore, or decorating your nightstand while you're actively reading it.
