News Poll about cover of new Strange New Worlds anthology at startrekbooks.com

I don't see either choice on the cover of the new anthology.

Probably because I don't see either choice, period.

Eh, neither one really excites me, but I voted for the Enterprise for sentimental reasons.

From the second to the tenth of the original books, the volume number was incorporated into the cover painting. II, III, and V weren't especially creative, but IV had a somewhat improbable spacecraft, VI had an alien hand painting in the Roman numeral, VII had what appear to be hot roof vents emphasizing the shape of a group of buildings forming the Roman numeral, and 8-10 all had exploding spacecraft, with what remained of their hull numbers giving the volume number, the last only giving it because it was upside down.

I don't see any of that in either piece (and thanks, "Defcon," I saw nothing at all between the bottom of the headline and the "click here to learn more" link).

Then again, if this is to be strictly an E-book release, then there's little point in expending much effort on cover art: it's not going to be attracting attention in a bookstore, or decorating your nightstand while you're actively reading it.

I remember Dean saying on the old AOL boards that he liked the cover of II (not instead of or better than other covers; besides, only the two volumes were in print at the time) because it suggested the Guardian of Forever to him, and several of the stories in that volume involved time travel.
Judging the covers strictly on their own merit, in my opinion VI is the best. I love the idea of some tentacled alien painting the cover. Very meta. :)

I prefer the Enterprise, if only because I'm not a fan of recycling Ships of the Line images as book covers.

Though that does raise the question of what the source is for the Enterprise image. Is it another SOTL shot that I just don't remember? It wouldn't have been specifically commissioned for SNW, because then why would there be a contest to replace it with a stock image?

Does anyone else remember that when the cover of VII was originally released, it had an A-wing from Star Wars on the cover? Internet folks complained, and it was replaced with the (obviously much more apt) Delta Flyer!

I had never heard that story! How funny.

That's the best they could come up with? Both are rather boring, so I'm not even going to bother voting.

I voted for the shuttle version--I think it's more dynamic than looking at the back end of the Enterprise doing nothing in particular. Disappointed in the choices, really.

Wow. Between the ramrod straight orientation and the horrible cropping, they actually succeeded in making the Enterprise look boring.

B then A? So the galactic quadrants were actually ordered by the good folks at Simon & Schuster?

Me neither. Not sure what's going on with that. I thought maybe voting was geoblocked, but you're in California, so

Yeah, that was my first reaction as well. If the image of the Enterprise was also from SotL, I don't recognize it, but the shuttle image really sticks out as a reuse.

(Besides, who's reading the book to see the continuing adventures of the USS Farragut? ;) )

So I would vote for the second option (A, apparently) if I could vote, which I can't. Even though neither are really terribly impressive.
