News coming 8/10?

I'm trying to give this series a chance, but throwing around words like "10 years before Kirk's mission" and "re imagined" make me less optimistic.

If this is set in the Star Trek era then it should look and feel like the Star Trek era. We shouldn't have more graphic scenes and character's saying, "oh shit!" If it doesn't flow with how the time period has already been depicted then it throws you out of the story, just like the remastered effects.

Isnt Tarsis too early..if it is 10 years before Kirk launch of the E..then he is already in starfleet not a 13 year old

Set after TNG/DS9/VOY. Wow continuing a story going into the future, what a shocking concept!!!
Well, I could maybe get on board with something set, say, a century afterwards. Decline of the Federation or something like that.
I'm starting to feel the same with the Star Trek era. It seems like we're stuck in this Kirk/Spock era, and I would have liked to see something set after the original series for one.
I could also get on board with something set between TOS and TNG (though closer to TOS).

But now we have this, and I'm really, really on board with this! :D

I'm very curious as to what he is referring to when he says that we've heard mention of this event or incident that is the basis of the series before. Especially since that era is not well traveled in canon form.

Fuller knows what he's doing, he's not going to run roughshod over important canon or anything. He's a huge ST fan. I don't believe he's going to do what Enterprise did with including unnecessary things like those decon scenes just because.

"when asked if we’ll see any familiar faces from Fuller’s other series in this one, he said it depends on their schedules — but agreed that Lee Pace would make one hell of a Vulcan."

Another prequel... Sigh. I just lost a lot of interest in the show. I'll watch it, I'm sure, but I will not be anywhere near as enthusiastic to watch it as I would be if it were... well... anything else.

Overall I like what I'm hearing (reading) so far. I'm a bit disappointed in one sense with the time period as it feels a little obvious what with the registry of Discovery, I was kind of hoping that would be a red herring. That said, I'm totally down for more TOS(ish)-era Trek. A more gung-ho, Frontier feel will be good I think, and I'm intrigued by the lead not being the captain. As others have said, nowhere near as much of the Galaxy had been explored in this time so there's still a lot of ways the story can go. I'm a big fan of Farscape so I like the idea of an overall arc to the series but with self contained episodes, and I'm looking forward to seeing how they play with what's familiar to us. I'm willing to give a bit of dramatic licence to the presentation of the show, but I hope it keeps things recognisable. Also wondering if we might get a guest appearance from the Enterprise under Pike...

The main character is a Lieutenant Commander (with caveats), but there's still going to be a Captain, right? Perhaps it'll be like The West Wing, which was ostensibly set around the President's speechwriter (Sam Seaborn), before just gravitating naturally to focus on the President himself.

"Sources tell THR the rest of the cast will also feature an openly gay actor to play one one of the male leads (which Fuller confirmed), a female admiral, a male Klingon captain, a male admiral, a male adviser and a British male doctor."

A male Klingon Captain! Can I hope for a younger Chang?

Apparently Fuller specifically shot down Section 31's appearance in this
actually he didn't
from EW
"The event is something that was referenced in the original series, but not the Romulan War (“close,” he says), or Section 31 (but that could play a role), or Kirk wrestling with the Kobayashi Maru test. It’s only been referenced, never seen, he said."

he says the event is not related to Section 31 but that they could still play a role.

Would love to hear some theories from people about what this "event mentioned in the original series" that the series will be featured around is. Fuller said that fans should be familiar with it and excited to get into it, because it's always something he wanted to learn more about. TOS is probably the series I know the least about, curious what some more of the experts on here are guessing.
