I do not like MCU films

The content of the thread was more about how the whole attitude of "DC's Dark and Mature" was really...dung.

The recent DC movies remind of Marvel comics in the 90s, trying really hard to be dark and mature, but ending up being badly written agnsty garbage instead, I don't know how this tone is supposed to be applied to Flash or Shazam.

The MCU is far from perfect, but their approach is far better's then DC's.

I think the biggest difference is the way the studios are run. Marvel Studios is basically running itself now, they don't even have to answer to Marvel Comics anymore. DC is still run by WB and they want a new franchise since Harry Potter has ended. Marvel Studios is actually trying to sell these movies to the widest possible audience while still maintaining the core element of those characters. I actually think they're proud of their characters and want to tell a good story. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But even the misses manages to get a few things right and doesn't completely piss off the audience. I don't think that WB is proud of their catalog. They want to make a lot of money, but don't believe that the characters themselves can sell themselves. The only hit they got was with Bstman. So that's why everything has to be like Batman. They don't understand that people liked that because it was a great Batman story, but because it was so dark and gritty. Which is really why everyone liked the Nolan movies in comparison to what we had before. They make the movies like they have a chart that tells them mathematically what people want, but it doesn't translate to a good story.

I wish the following were not true, that the race was at least equal but IMO, DC continues to prove Marvel the Superior franchise.

I like them both but Suicide Squad and BvS were much better than Civil War and Ultron. And I loved Civil War in comic form. Marvel is starting to feel like the same movie over and over, not taking any risks.

What's Risky about anything DC has done?

I have a few friends/coworkers who rush out to see EVERYTHING DC or Marvel in the 1st few weeks. They never get tired of them even though they admit most of the movies really aren't that good. They'll watch one, say "that sucked" and then wait impatiently for the next. I don't get it.

If you say so. I thought BvS was one of the most attrocious cinematic experiences I've sat through. That movie did almost everything wrong. Civil War on the other hand, was pure joy. And I'm naturally a DC Comics guy, but Marvel is firing on all cylinders. Suicide Squad was just ok. Marvel's mediocre (Ultron) beats DC's mediocre every time.

Marvel risks make storyline sense and don't ruin characters just to be risky. Having the Avengers basically split down the middle over a philosophical argument, I'd consider risky. CA: Winter Soldier was basically a political movie about government overstepping it's bounds. That's risky. I consider building up to a showdown with Thanos over the course of a dozen movies is risky. Having Superman snap Zod's neck isn't risky, it's stupid. Having Batman murder criminals and try to kill Superman isn't risky, it fundamentally gets Batman's character wrong.

The Marvel films are better by pretty much any yardstick one would like to employ.

Suicide Squad somehow managed to be worse than BvS. At least the latter tried to say something, right up to the point where it forgot what it was about and went straight into disaster porn.

For the films (or at least the recent ones), I've definitely enjoyed the Marvel ones more. I have liked the DC ones, but prefer the Marvel ones.

(TV series, I like the Marvel ones but prefer DC)

What kills me about DC and WB is that we know they can make good superhero films. They've done it, at times when people would just point at you and laugh if you even suggested "I like films based on Marvel's stuff." There shouldn't be a critical controversy with a DC Superhero film. In the past, critics have either mostly loved them and the audience generally agreed or vice versa. But twice now, critics have been mostly thumbs down and fans have been sharpening their pitchforks and lighting the torches. There's something wrong with that picture, but it's not the Marvel Movie Method's fault.

When is the last time you'd say DC made a good comic book movie?

Some of their movies are good(Ironman,Avengers 1, Captain America 1 and 2, Guardians of the Galaxy) but most are mindless entertainment that's easily forgotten.

I'll take mindless entertainment over "MARTHA! WHYJYOUSAYTHATNAME!!!!!" any day.
