Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

Might get to go on the 22nd after all. Wife is getting off of work earlier than she originally thought.

Man, those guys must have some serious jet lag. I flew once to London and it took a month before I could stand to think about the flight back and that was only because I had to. Of course I'm sure they were more comfortable flying first class, but still draining flying from Aussie, to London and then back to the states.

Don't know it its been posted, but the Review Embargo is lifting 6 days early. Normally means that the studio likes whyat their hearing.
Have you a link to something containing that announcement? The only thing a quick search turns up for me is someone saying the embargo will be lifted on the 20th, rather than the 21st.

Yeah everything seems to be going pretty well. It looks like the movie's getting some great word of mouth across the Trek sites.

Paramount has just updated their review embargo date for STAR TREK BEYOND: originally, the press restriction was in place through July 20, but Paramount has moved it up to tomorrow (July 15) in a sign of confidence in the film and initial critical reactions after yesterday's first US screenings.

Look for our review after 3PM ET / 12PM Pacific on Friday!

Anyone watch the video on the facebook Star Trek page of Idris Elba and Zoe Saladana asking each other fan questions?
Found out that in the photo below that the black eye Kirk is sporting is real from a fight scene between he and Idris.

I'm REALLY hoping this initial word-of-mouth is legit. I am not as excited for this movie (for some strange reason) as I have been in the past, and I'm dying to be blown away in spite of that.

"First ‘Star Trek Beyond’ Reactions Are Highly Positive".
I'm intrigued by one comment: "Fun, pretty dark, lots of fan moments" [underlining added]
Everyone's talking about the fun, but if there's a dark edge that's cool too.

Feel Matt Damon from 10 years ago would be a great Kirk
With Affleck as Spock, obviously. It coulda worked!

About 12 hours ago I found a 15 min review of STB on Youtube. It was not favourable. I watched a few minutes of it, but then gave up due to combination of relentless negativity and unstructured rambling.
Interestingly, his comments echoed my recently voiced opinions on GotG. Stuff happens but the overall effect is empty. Now, others have commented already that Beyond is structured around
trying to get/keep a macguffin
, but from the clips we've seen in the ads, plus comments from behind the scenes, we know there is also a lot of Trekness going on.
The strange thing is that the reviewer kept insisting on two contradictory things: 1. I'm a regular Joe who knows almost nothing about Star Trek. 2. This is not Star Trek!
I can't help wondering if he is some JJ-hater in deep cover: "Hello, normal people, I am a normal just like you! And I have some normal, completely objective remarks to make about how JJ Abrams deliberately destroyed Star Trek due to a bunch of obscure things none of you noticed or cared about..."

More on the 4th movie with JJ quotes.

Sounds like they won't re-cast Chekov.

One of the reasons for the writers creating Jaylah was the concern that Uhura was the only female member of the main cast, perhaps they could bring in Saavik earlier to replace Chekov? Maybe also make her half-Romulan, as that would certainly play off of Spock and Kirk too, who have lost much to the Romulans, albeit time traveling ones.
