Do you think LGBT characters will feature more prominently?

Enterprise D and alt/Mirror Enterprise D have identical specifications.

One has families, and the other is a troop transport.

It'd take a week to retrofit regular Ent D into a Troop transport and leave all those families on a starbase.

If "troop transport" means something like the oceanliners that ferried US and Canadian troops to Britain during WWII, sure, but that seems like a waste of Galaxy class ships. But if it's an assault transport for delivering troops into combat zones, it would need serious upgrades to the transporters and shuttle bays to get 10,000 troops down to a planet in a reasonable length of time.

But genetics don't determine sexual orientation, and if genetics did determine sexual orientation, a person with an agenda could just as easily make more gays per million than straights per million.

Honestly, considering our issues currently with over population, if I could could drop a gay bomb I would without hesitation.

It's a really humane way to halve the population, so the oil will last longer.
Gay people do reproduce as well

do they allow gays in the Saudi army? Unlikely

back to the topic, I think the new series could have an entire alien race who are homosexual - each gender only mates with itself. Heteros are considered abnormal and persecuted
STNG did something similar already, the one species race all looked like androgynous females and Riker fell in love with one.

I think that by the 23rd/24th century, where people are quite happy to engage in inter-species sex that most would be more fluid with their sexuality as well--after all not every species will have the same plumbing, so sometimes compromises would have to be made with what goes where.
Considering that in RL some people think having sex with someone with more or less melanin than your self is 'interracial' sex and human sexuality is no more or less fluid than I doubt your theory for the ST universe. If a male human wants to have sex with a female and is not bothered by species then he would still want a female or a gender close to it. Same for if a male wants to just have sex with a male.

I was fucked by that comment 10 years ago.

I usually pad my speech to prepare for it rearing up.

When gays want a baby, they make a baby, or find a baby.

Our lot make too many babies excessively. We make so many unwanted babies, that there's enough spillover for all the 40 year olds who waited too long, the unfortunately barren and the homosexuals to take twice as babies as they want, and there's still millions per month new sprogs being sent to graze in farms up state like live stock.

If you set off the gay bomb, all abortion doctors would be out of work.

Same for if a male wants to just have sex with a male.
Stuffed in a bag like that.

It's so dark.

Sometimes a mail just wants to have sex with a mail.

But genetics don't determine sexual orientation ...
Current understanding (iirc) is that genetics do just that, it has to do with the internal structures of your brain.

I'm sure there'll be right to choose advocates who would have artificial insemination just so they could then have abortions.

Between regulars, reserves and guard the Saudi army is nearly half a million men. Given it's size the Saudis are unknowingly "allowing" many thousands of gays into their army.

Err.. not with each-other, they don't.
Okay, someone sit this guy down and start explaining things...
Mr And Mr Reginald Dwight have two sons, they found a way to reproduce with someone female, even if there was no fun involved.

If you're just going to select a pal for servicing, it's safer for gay men and lesbians to pair off, rather than trusting a straight not to freak out and fall in love with the mother/father of their child.

Seriously I googled, and google said genetics didn't determine sexuality.

Bad google!

Oh?

(2 seconds of googling, apologies if I found a hack.)

Another study claiming that there is a connection between homosexuality and biology, by the neurophysiologist Simon LeVay, claims that a specific structure in the brain is smaller in gay than in straight men. The size of this structure in gay men, he claims, is more like that seen in heterosexual women – though in fact, he has no evidence regarding the sexual orientation of the women whose brains he examined. All of LeVay’s observations were made on the brains of cadavers, and his evidence about the sexual orientation and practices of the people in life is entirely circumstantial. Furthermore, the "gay men" all died of AIDS, which is known sometimes to affect brain structures. Another criticism of this study is that in some of LeVay’s "gay" samples, the structure was larger than in the "straight" ones, so that upon inspection, there is no basis for deciding whether a given person in life had been "gay" or "straight."

But that's my point. Even shows like the Flash have token background gay characters. The days of breaking barriers are gone. I hope there is a gay character (I'd prefer transgender) but I would have preferred this to have happened years ago in one of the 90's shows. Doing it now doesn't really have the same impact. It will be good to see (and I think it probably will happen) but it wouldn't be groundbreaking. That's the shame for Trek.

Why would we want to to respect anti-LGBT people?

"I think we need a black woman character and a character who opposes black women being in command."

That is exactlt how the "anti-LBGT" character idea sounds to me.

Unless it was like a really bigoted alien or sonething...and we all knew they were stupid...like the Ferengi and their attitudes towards women...

Then they both reproduced... but not with one another.

This isn't bigotry, as you really seem to want to label it, but simple biology. Reproduction in humans requires a male and female source. We haven't figured out a way to do it otherwise, Orphan Black not withstanding.

Come TNG or even TOS, science may have created a way to do that, and it could be interesting to see how it's dealt with, but in 2016, you're stuck with what nature gives you.

Even if only one partner contributed DNA, they're both parents if they're raising the child together.
The child could even be adopted. What difference does it make. There's more to parenting that the reproductive act.
