CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

And I have no doubt that however it is spun, either or both will fly and be embraced without hesitation by the Followers of this production and producer.

They still have the corner they have painted themselves into:

  • either this was inevitable and they knew it and collected a million in donations for something they knew they couldn't do and tried to squirrel the money away in assets,
  • or this was not inevitable, and the greenscreen & etc. caused it.

The options centering around "it was not inevitable, and not different from prior productions" have to be called out, by making it clear what caused this. I propose this: http://www.pinmart.com/lime-green-ribbon-pin/

Axanerds ruin everything. Fuck Alec Peters.

As I said elsewhere, Alec may have forced the issue, but this was a long time coming. Heck, even this thread shows you just how much some of these guys feel 'entitled' to use the Star Trek brand for themselves... how much longer was this really going to go on?

And it's not like the first time... no one remembers the coming of TNG and what it did to fan works?

It was certainly an inevitable. And the golden age of fan productions wouldn't last forever. That being said, it certainly was Alec Peters and the Axanar production that [insert cliche here].

True, it's just I'm dealing with a few friends who are quite heatedly vocal about it not being Alec's fault, he didn't cause this, it's all CBS greed. It hurts when a friend attacks you for saying Alec is at fault. That friend turned out to be an Axanerd and was a part of the cult. Nothing I could do about it.

Wasn't it TNG that indirectly contributed to the downfall of FASA (where Axanar got its inspiration from) ??

He's still arguing with me. It's getting...rude. Well as rude as implying you pounded half the fandom with the same condom gets with someone with his vocabulary. Honestly, it's weird now.

That's getting into RMB territory.........

This sort of releases Alec of his Donor obligations to create the most coolest, super fantastic, epic film ever with only HIS $1.3 million in the bank... Sorry Fans, CBS said I can't do it.
I do feel for the guy.... NOT

There's no way Alec and Axanar get to spin this positively. Today Alec is probably the most hated man in Star Trek fandom and he'll always be known as the guy who killed fan films. Way to go asshole.

What the inevitable book covers to the chronicle of this fiasco might look like:

Seriously, if anyone ever writes a book about how Alec Peters and Axanar fucked it all up and ended fan films as we've known them, feel free to use any of these covers, no strings attached. I'll even make modifications to them for free.

@DaveGalanter ??

So what you're saying is there was no way of knowing when CBS and Paramount would lay the guideline hammer down until somebody did something stupid...and then Alec Peters did something stupid.

How does that not make it his fault again?

Oh, Gene's lawyer directly killed FASA's license after having kept them under the gun for over a year. (To be fair, FASA wasn't exactly well behaved during this time, turning out worse and worse product.)

But this is also when all those fan guides and ship blueprints started being 'shut down' by the powers that be. They were a LOT more draconian about fan works back then ... hell, even the usenet channels were threatened with shut down!

Looking back, I guess I should've been surprised to see those old "Ships of the Star Fleet" books on the shelf next to the TNG & DS9 Tech Manuals and the Star Trek Encyclopedia at my local Barnes & Noble...........

" Well, AXANAR is in the middle of a court case fighting for it's survival. We're the only people now fighting for ALL fans. AXANAR is the only production FIGHTING for all fan films everywhere. And we continue to fight on. ALONE."

God save us all.
There is something special in the kind of delusion that manifests in RMB's tweets and interview responses...

Nope. uh-uh. divide by 0. They're the only people now fighting for the THIEVING WRECKER CRITIC ABUSER SELF GLORIFYING SCAM ARTIST superfans. not ALL fans. Or ALL fan films. Just this one subset running this one activity.

The way to have fought for all fans and fan films was to admit guilt and misconduct when faced with the lawsult. Take it on themselves as the truth it is, thereby softening the consequences of THEIR acts on OTHERS.

But of course they did not do this.

The way for this to resolve among fans properly is for all the acts of greed to be on a one page, maybe an executive summary on Axamonitor, where folks who are asking why did this happen/what was different about Axanar can get the unfiltered just-the-facts. A lot of such people must exist, and will not be taken in by the Marines. Leave the Marines defending a position that's permanently under the sea of informed fans.

I'm not trying to absolve Alec. I'm just saying that, sooner or later, SOMEONE was going to push things too far and we would have seen action soon... the fact that Alec pushed things off a cliff notwithstanding.

The door the hardware store was open and unattended while the owner took lunch, cause the town was so small and everyone knew each other. Leave a payment or a note if you visit then.

Can't blame anyone, really, for pulling up with a panel truck and emptying the place. It was bound to happen eventually. Not as if there were general laws that overruled certain actions even when there was opportunity.
