Shootings in Orlando

Gryffindorian

This is such a sad day ...

I get sick of reading the reactions on Facebook. Every time a tragedy like this hits, people react with hate, ignorance, and finger-pointing. It's the NRA' fault. It's the Muslims' fault. It's the gays' fault.

My sympathies to the victims and their loved ones. As humans, we are all victims. Blaming and judging others does nothing more than foster hate and ignorance.

I'll leave others to do any finger-pointing. All I'm going to say on this matter is that my thoughts are with the families, friends and the victims of this horrible...act?

So what's the point of this thread? Should we have the mods lock it before someone shows up and dares to give their opinion on the subject? You are just inviting the very thing you claim to be sick of reading.

I do believe that a solution needs to be found for gun violence in the USA. However if the Sandy Hook Massacre wasn't enough for the significant action to be taken I don't know what event ever will be enough.

I think we should cease focusing on the killers - let them become nameless and forgotten, lets concentrate on the victims and their families.

The point of the thread, MarsWeeps, is to express our sympathy and concern for the victims and survivors. My heart is breaking for all of them. And, yes, it really is possible to focus on just that today and leave the political part for tomorrow.

I have yet to see a thread stay on topic and remain civil in these forums, especially one where strong emotions are involved.

There's a thread in The Neutral Zone (which anyone can opt into under "Preferences" in their profile) where people can express their opinions about the motives behind the attack, or someone can start a separate thread to discuss those things in Miscellaneous if they prefer. But I see no reason why we can't respect the OP's request to limit our commentary to expressing sympathy for the victims in this thread.

Expecting logic from the masses is ... illogical.

Einstein did say that the second most common element in the universe behind hydrogen was human stupidity.

The good people outnumber the bad people by orders of magnitude, or else human civilization could not exist.

In the last 12 hours over $1,100,000 has been raised for the victims

And there goes your proof.

Unfortunately, it's so easy to kill and destroy that all it takes is a handful of lunatics.

I don't know the answers to all these issues that have been raised by this incident but I do know one thing...I'm tired of seeing the flag at half-mast.

My husband's nephew, who happens to be gay, posted "I've never been so afraid to be who I am." :sigh:
