Battlestar Galactica Movie News.

I think Universal want it be like the orignal, but told differently. In the way, yes, being another version being told, it is a reboot.

Sounds interesting. Not that familiar with the 70s series - though I think I did see the movie years and years ago. The 2000s series was great. Admittedly, it got a bit weird as time went on, but still a quality slice of sci-fi and my favourite science fiction series of the 2000s. I'd be interested in seeing what they can do with the story on the big screen with a multi-million dollar budget.

Although, with the 'all of this has happened before, all of this will happen again' thrown into the mix, it could be argued that every version of BSG is (technically) within the same universe...

That's a coincidence, I'm currently doing a rewatch of both series on Blu-Ray. I've got just four more episodes left of the classic series and then its G80. I wonder when this film will come out (if at all)?

The only thing is will it be a first in a trilogy or so on? As if it were just one movie it seems a lot to fit in. Explaining/introducing the 12 colonies concept, the Cylons, who's who, the holocaust, the ragtag fleet, etc etc. And then if they find Earth at the end of the movie it isn't gonna feel like that much of a journey, "at last we have found Earth after 70 minutes of searching!"

I've already posted this a few times in discussions related to this movie, but it bears repeating, so here it is. What I predict we can expect from this BSG movie, if it is ever made:
How I see it: Cylons attack and defeat the Colonies. Huge CG sequence with pretty explosions. Galactica and other surviving ships band together. Middle of movie just consists of snappy one-liners, and a romantic subplot while characters stoically accept they are they last of humanity. No one gets depressed over it like in nuBSG, but they also don't decide to shrug it off with a trip to the Space Casino either. Then a 40 minute action sequence in which Galactica fights the Cylons. Movie ends with Adama actor talking about Earth, as possible fodder for a sequel.

I did wonder at first if the whole repeating cycle thing in the RDM series was their attempt to find a way to have the original series possibly be some part of that universe, but as the series it became pretty clear that wasn't the intention.
While I love the RDM series, it could also be fun to see a big budget movie done closer to the style of the original series.

It's just another way of saying that history repeats itself.

But in this particular instance it was taken to literally mean that the Glen Larson 1980's original BSG takes place in the same universe as nuBSG, which is kinda hard to swallow. It's one thing to have history repeat itself; it's another thing entirely to have the exact same character names given to people 150,000 years apart, never mind that the TOS Cylons are aliens and not machines built by humans.

I think Universal got interested in BSG again when Disney announced the new SW films. I don't think they want to take it in a nuBSG super-serious direction. I think they want to just have it compete with Star Wars and be epic action and SFX, just as the original show was TV's answer to SW.
