The Americans is Delightful.

Indeed. I like that networks are becoming more flexible to the idea of giving shows the ability to end on their own accord and with enough time to conclude properly. I think LOST set that precedent and I hope it continues.

Indeed. One of the few shows that I watch more or less in real time, instead of letting languish on the DVR until I have time to catch up with them.

Wow. I thought they were going to extort Don into handing over info (and I figured he'd do it and then off himself). I had no idea it would go down like that. And he'll probably still off himself.

Poor Paige. Most Mommys don't so effectively kill shitheads in dark places at night. Conclusions will be drawn.

When Elizabeth was in Pastor Tim's office and the choir was practicing far off in another room I was like.. what IS that song.. and yeah it was in O Brother Where art Thou and I had to pause the show and find it on youtube.

Ye gods, that last scene! Next week can't come soon enough.

Looking ahead, it can't be good that Pastor Tim and Stan have finally met. And how soon before Elizabeth starts pressuring Paige to pry more intel out of Stan's blabbermouth son?

That dinner scene was so awkward, even more so considering we knew where the direction of conversation was going.

I loved Stan's conversation with Oleg (more like a speech actually) and how decided not to try to turn Oleg into an asset. It's moments like that make love the show so much. That and how deeply affected Elizabeth became by the Don/Young Hee operation.

Is it silly how excited I get by the sight of a Commodore 64, even just a component? When we saw the Commodore 64 disk drive used in Don's office, I broke out into a big grin. Of course, Henry has one, too. :D

The opening scenes of this episode demonstrates precisely one of the major reasons why I love this show so much. It took the time to decompress and unpack all of the implications of Elizabeth quickly and smoothly taking down the two muggers in front of Paige, leading to the severe injury and possible death of one of them.

Many other shows would acknowledge the moment in one or two minutes before moving onto the next thing, but The Americans goes through the whole array of issues from the moment: Paige seeing her mother possibly kill someone, the incredible ease of that action, and how calm Elizabeth was during those quick situation.

Was Elizabeth trained to do this? Has she done this before? Was she afraid? Did she know she would have to do this when she joined? Why did she join? All of these questions and concerns weren't just handled in one scene, or even a couple of sequential scenes, but carried throughout the whole episode. Beautiful, powerful stuff, all leading up to Paige quietly demanding "Do you trust me or not?"

Meanwhile, we rush into the climax of season 4: William pushes on his worries about taking the biological weapon and Gabriel pushes back. Oleg further questions the action and spills the beans to Stan, and Stan quickly turns the information to a solid lead. Next week is going to be intense.

Wow. Talk about a dense (in a good way) episode. I had to rewind and rewatch a couple scenes just to keep up. I love the way all the disparate plot threads (Oleg, William, Paige) are converging.

William has turned out to be a much more interesting character than he first appeared, with all sorts of depths.

And here's the question: Is Paige actually interested in Matthew, or is she actively working him on her own accord? Or some combination thereof?

Wasn't Matthew implied to be gay in season 1 or so?

I think she's actively interested in buddying up to him to protect her family but wasn't planning on it going to date level. But she's a young girl and she's also complimented by the attention.

I've just started binging this show on Amazon Prime. It is one of the best, most engrossing shows I've ever seen. How on earth has this not won more awards? It's pretty awesome. Up to season 3 now.

It gets rave reviews, routinely makes lists of the best shows on TV, but the ratings are less than so-so and it's not getting a lot of Emmy love either. Which is a crying shame since the show deserves to get more attention.

It's to FX's credit that they keep renewing it even though the rave reviews aren't translating into ratings.

Hollywood is controlled by a generation still mired in the Cold War.

I thought it was a king, tuned out to be a president.

I'm going to assume that since Beamer came home the other dude is dead. And since Beamer came home without a battalion of agents the other dude said nothing to identify them.

But they don't know that. It kind of was a little flat in that I'm not on the edge of my seat wondering what they will do.

The Oleg stuff is the New Nina stuff, just get rid of it.

It took me half the Mischa scenes to realize who he was ! I rewatched them when it hit me

It was kind of a low-key finale, but I'm still dying to find out what happens next.

And, yeah, I had no idea who the young guy in Russia was until he mentioned that his father was a travel agent in America.

So, why did William infect himself with the virus? To keep the FBI from getting any information out of him?

Yep... It was the only way.. A "modern day" version of the cyanide capsule, albeit a much slower and more painful way to go.

Interesting to finally see Mischa and find out he's a protester!

It definitely builds up a good starting point for next season, even without the traditional cliffhanger. William's delirium fed comments about the "good looking couple with kids" will certainly stick with Stan and his obsessively suspicious mind may start to finally put two and two together.
