I'd also be happy to see a fresh start in a new continuity in whatever era they felt like exploring. .

I honestly don't care, visually it won't make a difference, it can take place in 2200 or 2500, it will look like a modern show produced in 2017 no matter what, I hope nobody expects consistency in the designs. Stories don't matter either, they can be told in any time period, it's a huge galaxy and the franchise had barely scratched the surface so far.

But if I'm forced to chose one I'll say post Nemesis, only to see some meltdowns when the entire lit verse gets tossed.:rommie:

If it were me, I'd put it way, way past Nemesis. I think it would be a great way to get fan like me (who hate or dislike the JJ Abrams movies) and fans who are interested in the movies but don't want the whole heavy Trek continuity bogging it down.

I mean 150 years after Nemesis, how would you know which continuity it was? It could just go back to being Trek about thoughtful exploration and adventure and wouldn't have to make anybody feel like their puppy was being strangled or they were going to have to spend the next month reading every page of Memory Alpha to catch up.

Everybody could enjoy it. Peace in our time!

Which time or era do you want the new series to take place in?

This is out of genuine curiosity of the mindset of the Star Trek community as I haven't seen any other threads asking this question with a poll. Care to leave your explanations below.
I'm shocked the vote is so high for post TOS, pre-STNG. Boggles my mind.

My choice would be the 25th century where we would follow multiple captains in a fleet based/Game of Thrones-ish series.

If the series is an anthology, one of the seasons would be great centered around an Akira-class starship on some dangerous long-term mission during the Dominion war!

I can't see it being an anthology series but that would be the way to please everyone. Don't like Prime, this season is JJVerse. Don't like TNG era, this season is TOS era. I'd prefer a galaxy spanning series set on different ships and starbases personally. We've never followed multiple crews before unless you count the era when TNG/DS9/Voyager were on at the same time.

Anything but an anthology. I want to see character development as we get to know a crew and follow them over the years.

My first choice though would be post-Nemesis, and second between TOS and TNG.

Concur on the first and second parts. Don't have much of an opinion for or against TOS>X<TNG.

If it's true that the new series will be an anthology series, with each season being set in a different time or location, then we may get all the choices listed here.

That would definitely be interesting. Probably a more viable basis for an anthology series than the rumored anthology setting between TOS and TNG. That rumor by the way, I think is completely fake.

I'm just disinclined towards the JJ-verse (as I have an abiding dislike of those movies) and slightly more inclined to set it clearly after Nemesis in order to give the writers a little more scope to do some new stuff.

But none of this is "make or break". As long as the characterisations are strong and the stories are good, then I'm as happy as a clam.

Just make it good. Where it takes place doesn't really matter if the show is shit.
Agreed. That goes for anything badly written and badly executed.

But the new series can't be too far in the future, otherwise it loses its Star Trek feel. I never bought into the time cops from Voyager, or Enterprise, for example. So there are some limits. If I had a choice, I would like it after Nemesis so as not to lock it in between two time periods. I think if the new series made it somewhere between 25-75 years after Nemesis would be ideal. Just like TNG did before it, that time frame difference would allow for enough time to have passed since Nemesis for the new series to stand on it's own, but still keep it in the same universe.

My second choice would be in between Star Trek 6 and before TNG, but it would have to be executed well, to avoid the same trapping Enterprise fell in.

The series begins in the year 3000, set onboard the most unlikely of all ships, the U.S.S. Futurama a Starfleet courier/cargo ship with an eclectic (if not eccentric) crew: A human Captain pushing 150, a bit doddery but mostly harmless...unless you're one of his crewmen; a highly bureaucratic and overly-meticulous Vulcan first officer; a one-eyed helmswoman/security chief, possibly the most 'normal' of the crew; a defective android ops manager, whose AI/personality matrix is in need of a serious upgrade; a hard-shelled ship's doctor, who graduated last in his class; a human female engineer, who is somewhat shallow and clumsy; and the ship's cargo handler, who barely managed to meet the entry requirements to enlist.

Post-Nemesis

I hate reboots and the like. Totally unnecessary. Be a new show and do new things [yet still be Trek].

Post-Nemesis would give plenty of scope: they can write new things without having to be mindful of the timeline that they are in and this avoids upsetting those of us who value continuity. They could also have some guest stars, reference the previous shows and even tie up some loose ends.

Sadly, the cynic that I am thinks it is going to be some TOS-era show that relies too much on explosions than good characterisation.
