I haven't posted here in years, but reading the post in this thread, I felt compelled to.

As for something taking me out of Star Trek, it's not the little nitpicks that someone like Warped9 complains of that does it, it's the sheer mass of moobs, goatees, and pot bellies on the other fan films that do.
Welcome back to posting
When did man boobs become moobs?, I had to looked that one up, I understand nothing shatters the fourth wall like a miscast actor, white guy playing Othello, leading man type trying to be funny, Keanu Reeves being series and overweight actors playing Star Fleet's finest can detract. But it's their bus and they are driving, and having fun and frankly putting themselves on display exposing their (pot) bellies to the teeth of all who watch, and I give them extra points for taking that risk, do you have an average 1969 height and weight? I know I don't.
I tend to look past everything but the story, sure here I will make a I know what a set can cost, I know the price of fabric and trying to match that green or blue OK teal in the right fabric type is bear and a half. (I did find something kind of close to the teal in Poly and JoAnn's has the right color but in cotton Moss Green)
I understand that you might feel that this is the easiest thing to preempt, cast thin folks at the get go, and I have yet to make a fan film, but I have cast and costumed plays in my life, and when you are not paying; finding bodies is not as easy as you think. And if a guy that should of been cast as an Orion slaver is the skipper and wearing a Rubbies 49.99 special, all I can say is hey I don't get the third act, or it could been tighter.
But hey if that is your hang up that is what makes horse races.
