And now, Tommy Kraft tells The Rest of the Story.
"I'm sure you're all wondering why I'm coming forward with this now in a time when many fans seem to be rejoicing. The answer is that on any production there will be issues and quarrels, but my personal experiences and things that I know have led me to the conclusion that Axanar is not wholly innocent. I have so much more to say on this issue, but it's not worth going into here in this format. None of this meant to take away the excitement fans have and this is not merely a slash piece on Axanar. I simply feel that fans should know the truth of my experiences and I encourage others to come forward with theirs as well to give fans their own perspective."

Robert Meyer Burnett Well, Tommy, as the editor of PRELUDE TO AXANAR, can I just say you're not quite remembering what went down. <snip>
Christian Gossett Tommy, I commend you for speaking out, and I'm here to back you up 100%. <snip>
Yeah. Why wouldn't an official statement be issued publicly from CBS/P?An unnamed spokesperson emailed a guy at Buzzfeed?
Objection, hearsay.![]()
Yeah. Why wouldn't an official statement be issued publicly from CBS/P?
I could see that happening.Wouldn't it be funny if it happened like this:
JUSTIN LIN enters STUDIO EXEC office
LIN: What's up with this lawsuit thing? I'm getting blasted on Twitter! Make it stop!
EXEC: Don't worry about it. Everything is under control. Don't you have a movie to finish?
LIN: Make it go away!
EXEC: Yeah, okay, fine. We'll "settle" and make "guidelines." Now get out before I call security.
LIN: That's more like it. Hey, are these danish for everybody?
Later, LIN meets with JJ ABRAMS
LIN: And when I told him they'd better drop the suit or else, he folded like bad origami. That's what I'm talkin' 'bout.
ABRAMS: Dude! I knew you were a badass! Wanna get ice cream?
Later still, at the FAN EVENT
ABRAMS: And then I went in and kicked this guy's ass, oh, and Justin was there too, so yeah. The suit is definitely off. So to all you Fans, you can love me now! Because I went to bat for you!
Yeah the push for guidelines isn't going to be all wine and roses. If they're anything like the Lucasfilm guidelines I can't think of a single Trek fanfilm in production that would be in compliance with them. Whatever they end up being, it's not going to be a lax as it used to be. And within five minutes of them going public the hardliners will be bitching about them being to restrictive and blah-blah-censorship-blah-blah-fuckCBS!This news is spreading all over FB and slanted as, "Woo-hoo! Lawsuit being dropped! JJ. is the fans' hero! We've won!"
Never let facts get in the way of a story.
"Settled" and "getting dropped" are not the same thing. JJ is NOT an official spokesperson for CBS/P. Because of Peters' crap fans may have actually lost dependent now on CBS/P's forthcoming guidelines.
We were actually winning before when everyone kept their head down and CBS had a live-and-let-live, no-harm-no-foul approach to fan productions.
And Alec Peters can take a bow for all the gratitude coming his way.Yeah the push for guidelines isn't going to be all wine and roses. If they're anything like the Lucasfilm guidelines I can't think of a single Trek fanfilm in production that would be in compliance with them. Whatever they end up being, it's not going to be a lax as it used to be. And within five minutes of them going public the hardliners will be bitching about them being to restrictive and blah-blah-censorship-blah-blah-fuckCBS!
If it was me making the rulesPresently we can only hope CBS/P humiliate AP while being fair to the other fan productions that played nice.
That would be a form of "win" for fans.
Why? It's his story to tell. It's not unusual to hold back until there is an emotional tipping point. The J J announcement clearly was his. He was told to stop his film, and JJ's announcement makes it look like Alec will get off scot free (if that is what the settlement will be). If production starts up again, they'll need people and Tommy wants those people to know what they're getting into. Perfect time to tell his story. Was it wrong for David Galanter to tell his story last week?It certainly makes for interesting reading but I find it frustrating he hasn't spoken out until now. If he'd spoken out sooner at the very least some guy in Idaho may not have given Axanar some of his hard earned dollars.

From the AxaMonitor article on Tommy Kraft's criticism of Axanar in the wake of its apparent legal reprieve, updated with reaction from Axanar director Rob Burnett, also Prelude's editor, who worked closely with Kraft.

I think moving forward Axanar should make the film with the funds they have left because they owe it to donors. They will not get any more money out of me.As many of you may have heard, on Friday night, JJ Abrams announced at the Star Trek Beyond Fan Event that Paramount was dropping the lawsuit against Axanar. It was a great moment for Axanar and we are very grateful to both JJ and Justin Lin. Please watch the above video.
There are still a lot of things up in the air that need to be worked out before we can provide some kind of production timeline. Here's a quick run-down ...
1. Even though we're really excited by what JJ Abrams and Justin Lin shared at last night's Star Trek Beyond event, the lawyers need to do their work (on both sides) before the lawsuit is officially resolved. This means we need to make sure we still meet all of the required filing deadlines for responses, etc. which we will (this takes a great deal of Alec and Winston & Strawn's time).
2. CBS also tweeted that they are working on guidelines for all fan films - we're anxious to see what those guidelines say and make sure we have a clear idea of what needs to be done to meet those expectations.
3. Once those two things are done, we have to get our team together to assess our current situation, determine what can be made (e.g. can we go with a current version of the script or do we need to change it), and take an inventory of what resources we have in-place to get it done.
Once that process is done (and it could take a while), then we'll be able to explain where we're headed and what we're going to do.

I can’t believe Burnett response to Kraft was:
“Next time you receive an intimidating phone call … don't accept it at face value.”
Is that not what got Axanar into problems in the first place. That they did not accept CBS at face value.
Here is today’s statement by Alec to backers:
I think moving forward Axanar should make the film with the funds they have left because they owe it to donors. They will not get any more money out of me.
Best case, if CBS went away tomorrow and Peters had carte blanche, isn't he still screwed? This has been his big excuse, but without that, how's he going to actually complete the film with the money on hand?
