And how about the credits for Into Darkess? Lotsa destroyed planets there:

Here are my thoughts.

I still think this is going to be post ds9/voy since it is hard to add new villains in a prequel/in-between series unless they are very minor. The crews things confirms some type of anthology I think,. The divided star fleet symbol I'm thinking is some kind of divided or broken federation. So sometime post voyager something happened to the federation and it isn't what it is and we'll tell that story through multiple crews and ships over multiple seasons. One long story from multiple povs.

That is what I think and I think they could be cool if done well. A ship you see one season could be the ship we join the next season and then we may see people from last years crew.

We'lll see.
According to reliable news sources, it reportedly takes place immediately following the events of ST:TUC, with the uneasy peace with the Klingons after the Khitomer Accords hanging in the background. I can very easily see the show referencing the 'anti-peace conspiracy' as the 'division'.
Almost certainly will reference the JJ movies, hopefully won't be too heavy.

I'm pretty sure nothing from this teaser will actually be in the series.

This is entirely only a pitch for the tone of the new show.

At this time the show probably only exists in the form of some very loose ideas and casting wishes.
Filming is set to begin in Vancouver "soon" probably August. That means casting is pretty much locked down. Actors who live outside BC need time to acquire housing, to wind down other jobs, etc. Set construction will probably start in June. Scripts for the first season are probably complete at this point too.

Either that or there's another Q Civil War.
No. Not a snowballs chance in hell; TNG+ got bogged down with way too many aliens and weird mythology; this show is designed to appeal to the average viewer, not the old trekkies. I think the Q concept would be out of place in this new show - I'm hoping for an entertaining, character driven show without the hours of conferences and technobabble that destroyed Voyager. Something that can match wits with BSG and B5, and can take on the best of DS9.

(note: I'd love to see Rick Anderson guest star as a retired Kirk or McCoy)

Except that info is not from a reliable source in the least.

You have no idea on what tight schedules television works, do you? They haven't even the writer's room fully locked at this point. The latter half of the season will be written while the middle half is still in production and the first half is already airing...

Most likely they are still in the planning phase and exchanging notes with their producers. I'm pretty sure it's still a long way untill the casting process, and up untill this point all characters are still in development, let alone scripts for episodes. My guess is they are currently looking for writers and trying to complete the series bible, and testing tone.

Does that mean that the new show will take place in the nuUniverse? Maybe, but probably not.
.

Exactly so.

What the use of imagery does signify is that all the bloviating from some quarters about what CBS owns versus what Paramount owns, or the supposed "feud" over Trek between the two companies is bullshit. They're totally in bed together, pursuing the common goal of minting money using Star Trek.

If I was smart, I'd stay off the internet today. Too many folks blithely asserting as "facts" various rumors, theories, and guesses--none of which are confirmed or verified by the teaser.

And, yes, way too many armchair legal experts expounding confidently on the inner workings of CBS and/or Paramount . . ...

An alternative to the anthology idea, as such, would be that the new series will move forward through time from season to season. So, for example, you've got a ship launching with a certain crew in the first season which is planned to cover a period of months or years right after the Praxis disaster and by the second, third, fourth season we've moved ten or fifteen years down the line. So the cost of main sets and ship design(s) are substantially amortized over several years like any other Trek series - built at the beginning, revised updated, expanded and aged over the course of seasons. "Crews" - characters who are introduced at the beginning who turn out to be very popular continue throughout the years, becoming more or less central to the show, aging, their lives and careers evolving, while many other characters remain for a season or less.

The design of the thing would open it up for the producers to change the show as much or as little as they want to over time, depending upon how a particular cast or storyline is received by the viewership or what ideas the producers come up as the season evolves.

I think filming is set for September, according to sources.

The teaser means Fuller has his vision ready, they know what they want to do. We're talking about one of America's most successful showrunners. And he has Nicholas bleedin Meyer on the team! I don't think they have all the writers, but judging by the Twitter account some people from Fuller's otehr shows are onboard.

Have they begun casting? I doubt it, it's only May.

My guess is since San Diego Comic Con will be slap bang in the middle of hype for BEYOND, Vegas in early August, literally a fortnight later, is where Fuller and co will want to make a huge fuss about the series. Before then we may have a new title and/or casting announcements/leaks of character descriptions for casting agents.

It feels like ages away, there's so much I want ot know RIGHT NOW lol but really we are talking a few months that will go by quick!

Also a nice tool for downward pressure on salary demands.

star trek eire thinks the easter eggs are praxis and veridian iii and it means the series will be set sometime between the two.....

Well they must know what they're doing by now!!!

Although it's presumably still a work in progress.

Heck, we all remember Captain Nicole Janeway of the U.S.S. Voyager, right? And "Doctor Zimmerman," the cranky holographic doctor? And Tuvok, the elderly Vulcan security officer?

(All straight from the original VOYAGER bible, btw.)

And I loved that they made Ensign Ro a regular on DS9! :)

STAR TREK: YORKTOWN

No proof, No Clue, No Idea, A simple uneducated guess...

Just because it would be a really nice call-back to Roddenberry's first ideas about the original series.

Can ya feel the tingle in the air...

Actually, they originally wanted Robert Guillaume (or someone like him) to play Tuvok because they wanted an elderly mentor for Janeway. When they cast the part with a much younger Russ but still tried to make him 90 years old or something, it wasn't very convincing to me.

And the Doctor's original name was going to be "Doc Zimmerman." :)

It's not so much a teaser or a trailer as a reminder that shitz gonna get real next year. It's nice enough but I feel fairly underwhelmed.
